ALASKA SPRINT TOUR DRIVERS EXPECTED TO BREAK SPEED RECORDS

WASILLA, Alaska -- The Alaska Sprint Tour will invade the mile asphalt track of North Star Speedway in Wasilla, Saturday. The one night only appearance will feature open wheeled winged alcohol fueled sprint cars from various south central Alaska towns for the first ever sprint race on asphalt in Alaska.

With record high temperatures in recent days and a warm forecast for Saturday, the track surface is expected to be in prime condition for the arrival of the sprint cars. The machines (sprint cars), with over 800 Horse power and a large aluminum wing on top of the car for down force, are expected to brake the official North Star Speedway track record held by Late Model driver Corey LaCosta at 11.155 seconds. Both divisions of the Alaska Sprint Tour, 360 and 410, will be on hand to compete at this special event with speeds reaching over the 90m.p.h. Drivers scheduled to appear include 2000 Alaska Sprint Tour Champion Elton McGahan of Kenai and last years champion John McDonald of Anchorage.

Also Saturday, the cars and superstars of Full Throttle Saturday Night will be in action with Legends, Late Models and Sportsman Super Trucks. Gates open at 1pm on Saturday with racing starting at 4pm. Admission prices are $10 for adults and kids under 10 are free. North Star Speedway is located at Mile 36.5 on the Parks Highway, off the Trunk Road overpass. Motor home parking space is available for Saturday night.
