RACING FOR OLD & YOUNG AT STOCKTON SPEEDWAY

STOCKTON, California -- Saturday, August 10th will be "JUST BORN CANDY" night at Stockton 99 Speedway, and with it comes the annual "Kids Night" presentation where children 2-8 can strut their stuff on the main straight away in competition with their Big Wheels and Tricycles. Prizes, balloons, and candy will add to the kid's delights.

As the night moves on, the "older folks" can enjoy four divisions of racing on the high-banked quarter-mile oval with NASCAR sanctioned, C.L. Bryant Union 76 Gasoline sponsored Weekly Racing Series action presented by DODGE.

The HOTWOOD Western Late Models will take center stage with Harry Belletto of Modesto looking to add to his growing point lead and a solid shot at his third Stockton championship. Belletto now leads by 106 points over Dave Byrd of San Jose, with Wes Miller of Delhi running third.

Danny Contessotto of Stockton must have a solid finish in the Grand American Modified action to retain his current 22-point lead over Sam Solari of Salida, who in turn has to watch his mirror for third place point runner Steve Stacy of Stockton who is looking for his second Grand American title.

Pure Stock action will center on the attempt of Manteca driver Danny Guibor, who is in pursuit his second straight championship. Guibor currently leads Johnny Bird of Stockton by 115-points, with Tracy Bolin of San Jose sitting third on the chart.

The "Mighty Legends of the Pacific" will return for their 7th event of the season with Pete Currin of Redwood City leading the points for the Master Division. Michael Morrissey of Kings Beach holds sway in the Pro Division ranks, with Debbie Darnell of Livermore leading the list of Semi Pro drivers.

As the season winds towards it's close, eight drivers in two divisions have now completed the required 50% of events run to qualify for Rookie of the Year honors. John Moore of Granite Bay leads the Grand American field followed by Kyle Gottula of Modesto, Doug Lane of Stockton, and Ted Montague IV of Newark. Dave Ball of Stockton is the front runner for the Pure Stock division, followed by Johnny Rose of Stockton, and Larry Moore of Lodi.

Joe Hylton of Manteca leads the votes for the Late Model most popular driver award program sponsored by the 18 SUBWAY SANDWICH shops of Stockton. Sam Solari leads in the Grand American balloting, with Chad Holman of Stockton leading the list in the Pure Stock ranks.

The prestigious NASCAR Winston West event, billed as the Dodge Dealers/Napa Auto Parts 200 presented by JanKing & ProLong, is set for August 17th, and will feature many of the West Coast's finest drivers including Modesto?s Mike David, who holds a slim lead in the Stage 8 Locking Fastener rookie of the year battle over Greg Pursley of Newhall.

Eric Norris of Dana Point will bring his 1009 point count to Stockton and wage it against the second place total of 967 held by Austin Cameron of El Cajon, the winner of the Irwindale event on July 29th. Kevin Richards of Spokane Washington, Runs third with a total of 936, followed by Mike Duncan of Lamont at 875 and David in fifth with 859.

Pit gates will open on Saturday. August 10th at 1:30 p.m. Spectator gates will open & practice will start at 3:00, with time trials at 5:00, and racing at 6:00. Prices are set at $15.00 for adults, $5.00 for children (age 6-9) $10.00 for seniors (age 65 & up) & students (age 10-17). A family pack is available for two adults & 4 children for $35.00. Kids, five & under are always admitted free at Stockton 99 Speedway.####
