PRESLEY MAKES IT TWO IN A ROW

TENINO, Washington -- The Action heated up on Saturday Night, August 10th at South Sound Speedway. The NASCAR Weekly Racing Series, presented by Dodge, crowned four winners. Nick Behn and Bob Presley each brought home another win for the season in the Late Model Super Stocks, and Chad Hinkle and JJ Hamilton's race for the points lead got closer as they each won a main event in the Top Notch Trailer Street Stocks. The St. Helens Sportsman made a great showing along with the Bumblebees and the much missed Figure-8.

Nick Behn qualified fastest with a 14.676, only one one-thousandth of a second over Eric Tibbitts in the Late Model Super Stock division. Bob Presley nudged a win by a nose at the line from Roger Drake for the Trophy Dash win. Drake led the first main event from the start with Wallace in second but Presley was close behind in third. By lap 16, Presley had gotten around Drake and Wallace. There were no cautions and the race was run smoothly with Presley winning and Drake in second. Wallace was third with Nick Behn and Dan Obrist rounding out the top five. The second main event did not have any cautions either. Nick Behn took the lead from the beginning and never let go, all the battling was behind Behn. Wallace was up in second spot after getting around Obrist but close behind was Drake and Tibbitts. Drake got around Obrist for third and battled Wallace for many laps but couldn't make it happen. Behn won with Wallace and Drake in tow. Fourth went to Eric Tibbitts and Bob Presley was fifth.

B ill Manney broke the track record in the Top Notch Trailer Street Stocks with a 15.83. Joe Swanson stayed ahead of the pack to win the dash. In the first main event, no cautions were thrown. Jim Jussila led the first five laps before JJ Hamilton took over. Bobby Micielli soon caught Jussila and moved into second. Manney took over third spot on lap 13. Hamilton won with Micielli, Manney, Chad Hinkle and Jussila in tow. Joe Swanson was sixth and Scott Puncochar was 7th. Puncochar did double duty in the Top Notch Trailer Street Stocks and the St. Helens Sportsman.

Mark Boehi took the lead early in the second main event but couldn't hold back Chad Hinkle. Hinkle did have problems in the beginning of the night. He blew a transmission early and his crew worked hard to put it back together before the second main event. By lap 10, Hamilton had moved his way up to second. Hinkle had an astounding lead until a caution was thrown when Jim Jussila broke a front rotor and stalled on the back stretch. Hamilton closed the between the two but couldn't get passed Hinkle. Hamilton settled in second with Boehi in third and Joe Swanson in fourth. Bill Manney was fifth followed by Bobby Micielli and Bill Posh.

Tonya Hird kept her cone on in the dash to win in the Bumblebees. Travis Major ran first throughout the first heat race to win while Brian Wilson did the same in the second. Derek Vetter started on the outside pole of the main event and took the lead for two laps until Tom Gonzales got around him. After two more laps, Jim Swanson got around Gonzales. The track was set-up with cones to run through and the challenge of running the opposite way made no obstacles too big for Swanson who won the main, in second was Tom Gonzales and third was James Wyrick. Look for two new drivers in the Bumblebees next week. The 36 of Jim Swanson and the 9 of Jim Moen were claimed this week.

Ross Roberts was the fastest qualifier for the St. Helens Sportsman and also won the dash. Originally the normal dirt track cars were set for two heat races but after knocking four of the six out of the first heat, they decided to run one. In the first lap of the first heat race, Brian Vaughn came down hard on Greg Greer and knocked both the cars out for the night. After a realignment and one lap complete Scott Wells and Dale Holland got together and neither could finish the race. After all was said and raced, Shane Dickinson won the heat race. With no laps yet complete in the main event, Wells spun on the back stretch causing a complete restart. With everyone back up and running, Ross Roberts was in first with Paul Liner right behind him. With five lapped cars between the two, it looked like Roberts had it won until a caution on lap 23 was flown and it was realized that Roberts had a flat. He couldn't stay on any longer and Liner took over the lead to win. In second was Shane Dickinson. Lanny Moore, Arnold Norton and Ron Greer rounded out the top five.

Sean Alder played his cards right in the Figure-8 and qualified fastest and scored a heat and main win. David Tresenriter won the dash. In the heat race, Mark Rogers took the first lead but it wasn't long before Sean Alder stepped in for the lead. Finishing behind Sean Alder was Ian Alder in second. In the main event, Rogers again led the first two laps before and Alder took over. This time it was Ian Alder. Ian led for six more laps before his car began to slow on him and Sean Alder took over the lead. Soon Ian Alder fell back to fourth place. Sean Alder won with Mark Rogers, David Tresenriter and Ian Alder in two. Finishing fifth was John Keyzers. Marshall Hallett was also at the track to race but he unfortunately broke in qualifying.

Coming to South Sound Speedway on Saturday August 17th are the WILROC Sprint cars along with the Hinkle Homes Pure Stocks and FSCRA. The NWSST will also be running with a double-points race.
