TWIN FALLS, Idaho -- KMVT presented Mel Quale Electronics night at Magic Valley Speedway and what a night it was for Mel’s son Bruce. Bruce hadn’t visited the Cactus Petes Winners Circle since May but on this night he seemed determined to change that. He started the evening by setting fast time in McDonalds time trials for the Mountain Dew Modified NASCAR Weekly Racing Series Feature Division. He then started fifth in the fifteen-lap heat race and quickly moved to the front taking the win over Tom Powell and Rick Corbridge. The fifty-lap feature saw more of the same with Quale using the outside grove to close up behind the leading Corbridge. Quale then made his move and made the pass for the lead stick on his second try. The event was slowed many times with yellow flags but on each restart Quale just seemed to set his car on cruise control and pull out a comfortable lead. Corbridge ran a strong second followed by Steve Jones, Powell and T. J. Woodhall. It was Quale’s third feature win of the season but Steve Jones maintains a commanding lead in the season point standings.

The Cactus Petes Intermountain Late Models ran their championship race here Saturday night and what an exciting race it turned out to be. Starting the fifty-lap feature Clint Kidd led Zan Sharp by just four points and two other drivers had a mathematical chance of grabbing the championship. With ten laps to go Kidd was leading but Sharp was right with him. In those last laps they traded some paint and at times were side by side but Clint was up to the challenge and is the 2002 champion. He said in the Cactus Petes Winners Circle it was a real thrill to win the championship before his home crowd. He hails from Rupert, Idaho. Gary Porter, Craig Doehling and Joe Hood rounded out the top five.

The NAPA Auto Parts Pony Stock ran a clean race with Scott Sidwell taking advantage of his second starting position to lead all twenty-five laps. The win moved Scott to just seven points of the lead in the season standings. Billi Miles leads the season chase followed by Kevin Bermingham just four points back. Woody Cullen, Miles, Edward Keyes and Mike Greco trailed Sidwell when the checkered flag fell. Chad Packham won the A heat and Sidwell took the B heat.

The Idaho Midget Racing Association feature went to Dennis Davis trailed by Steve Spoor, Stuart Birkinbine, Stan Going and Andy Going.####
