The Raybestos Brakes Northwest Series is about to make history and you can be a part of making it happen, while at the same time reaching out to help a young man fulfill his dreams.
The "Gentleman start your engines," has been said a thousand different ways, but never in the history of NASCAR racing (according to historian, Greg Fielden) have the cars been started by American Sign Language. That is about to change. Peter-John, a 12-year old boy who is profoundly deaf and legally blind, will start the final race of the season, The Northwest Racing Enterprises 150, by signing (in ASL).
Peter-John will be coming to Wenatchee in a motor home. Travel expenses to bring him, his Mom and Grandpa to the track are estimated to be approximately $400 -- $650.
Now is the chance for racers to give back to the fans, or for the racing community to give to a fellow fan. Let's show that the racing community cares by collectively raising enough money to bring Peter-John and his family to Washington. Any money received that goes above and beyond what is needed to cover Peter-John's travel expenses will be given to Bob Butcher, the chaplain of MRO for the NWT. If there are not enough funds raised, race sponsor Northwest Racing Enterprises has generously offered to make up the difference.
