IRWINDALE, California -- Todd Burns captured another top five finish at Irwindale Speedway on Saturday night. Burns, driving the #4 Villa Roma Sausage Late Model, has 10 top five finishes in 13 starts this season.
Burns, coming off a 10th place finish in the Jani-King 200 Winston West race and a 3rd place finish the same night in the Auto Club 50 Late Model race held at IS on July 27th, qualified his Chevrolet Monte Carlo in the third position for a straight up start in the 75-lap main event.
Burns, starting behind the #50 of Tim Huddleston, drove past the #50 to take the lead with the #34 of Kevin Wood charging hard in the second position. Burns and Wood battled side by side for about 10 laps with Wood finally taking the lead. A late race caution forced a green-white-checkered finish. At the start, Wood led the pack to the green with Burns hot on his tail. Unable to take the position from Wood, Burns finished a respectable second with the #45 of Scott Youngren close behind in third.
In the on-track interview, Burns stated, "I've got to thank my crew chief James Valk and all the guys on our team for all their hard work today. We had a minor problem earlier and they did a heck of a job. We tried to put this Villa Roma Chevrolet in victory lane. Thanks to Villa Roma Sausage, Maropulos Racing Engines, Ron's Rear Ends, and all the sponsors on this #4."
Look for the Burns Motorsports team to return to Irwindale this Saturday, August 17th.![]()
