SPARTA,Kentucky -- A.J. Foyt IV must be happy that the difference between first place and second place points and prize money isn't determined by the margin of victory. Crossing the line just .0652 of a second ahead of Ed Carpenter, Foyt won his third victory in four starts in the Infinity Pro Series race at Kentucky Speedway Sunday.
The lap chart of the race is deceiving. Although Foyt led 63 of 67 laps, the last half of the race featured a duel between the leaders in which Ed Carpenter dogged him relentlessly. Carpenter passed Foyt twice, but could not keep the lead and Foyt once ahead could not run away.
It is said that royalty has it's privileges. So how does the grandson of racing legend A.J. Foyt celebrate his close victory in the preliminary to the IRL Belterra Casino 300? You go back to work!
When he's not racing A.J. Foyt IV changes the right-front tire on Airton Dare's IRL entry. “I'm going to do the best I can on that now. I just got to focus on doing my job on that, try to keep the win aside for a little while at least until the race is over."
Guess the apple doesn't fall far from the SuperTex tree.![]()
