BORNEMAN UNSTOPPABLE AT STOCKTON

Johnny Borneman III hopscotches the country to compete on the superspeedways in both ARCA and Winston West series events, but when it comes to the tough bullrings of the West, this young gun is a bullet, and when he took a shot at Stockton 99 he was a straight shooter.

Borneman started the race on the outside of the pole and quickly worked his way around pole-sitter, Brandon Ash to grab the lead. After that there was no catching him. A late race caution extended the race to 202 and resulted in a green, white, checkered finish, but Borneman handily put a second between himself and the next place car of Mike Duncan.

It was a wild finish on the ¼ mile banked oval with Duncan, Mike David, Eric Norris and Kevin Richards all scuffling for position. Gene Woods came home 6th, his best finish of the season. Greg Pursley and Brett Thompson managed to stay on the lead lap as did Bud Pole winner, Ash.

Kevin Culver (long time no see) was the first car a lap down. Kenny Shepherd, who has been seen off an on in different series finished 15th. Scott Gaylord just missed a top-ten finish coming home 11th and Austin Cameron, currently 2nd in the standings was right behind him in 12th.

Veteran Winston West racer, John Krebs, who most recently has been working with Jack Sellers started the race, but mechanical problems ended his night early. It was great to see him on the track again.

Other drivers to show were Buzz DeVore, Bobby Hillis, and Keith Van Houten.

A very special young man, Peter-John and his mom, Anne were in attendance and I hope some of the racers and fans had a chance to meet these kind people.

Norris as a result of finishing eight places ahead of his strongest competition, Cameron, managed to cushion his point lead, but there is less than a hundred point spread between 2nd place in the standings, Cameron and 7th place, Pursley. Anything is really possible in this the most sophisticated and longest running stock car series in the west.

The next race for the Series is Roseburg in Oregon. If you are in the area don't miss it. This is a race that the car owners themselves have worked to bring to the fans. If not for them and sponsors, such as NAPA, fans would have one less race to view. Come on out and support the men and women who are racing and promoting to keep the tradition of this longest running series alive. ####
