ANTIOCH, California -- After back to back DNF's, point leader Darrell Hanestad came back strong by taking the lead from Terry Tarditi and driving on to victory in the 25 lap All Pro Series Wingless Spec Sprint main event Saturday night at Antioch Speedway. The double point win was the eighth of the season for Hanestad aboard his S&S Automotive sponsored Eagle Chassis. Scott Merrell matched his season best effort with a second ahead of Jim Perry Jr.

The Wingless Spec Sprints produced a 20 car field, and eight lap qualifying heat race wins went to David Goodwill, John Hendrickson and Hanestad. Perry scored the win in the five lap Trophy Dash. Steven Williams was scheduled to start outside front row for the main event, but a push start out of staging earned him a last row start. Tarditi set the early pace ahead of Merrell and Perry. A low move in Turn 4 of the fourth lap gained Perry second as Hanestad also slipped past Merrell for third. A lap seven caution flag flew for a front stretch tangle beteen Jimmy Perry III and Stan Cargo. The restart lap saw Perry make contact with Tarditi on the back stretch and back off, allowing Hanestad to race by Perry for second. A lap nine caution flag flew when Hendrickson and Chris DeRuyter got together on the front stretch with Brian Lokmor spinning to avoid contact. Tarditi led Hanestad and Perry on the restart, but Hanestad raced by Tarditi for the lead on lap 11. Tarditi was having handling problems, and Merrell and Perry shuffled him out of the top three on lap 12. A Chris Magoon spin brought out a lap 17 caution flag. Hanestad again paced Merrell and Perry on the restart as Williams had worked his way to fourth before problems would drop him back. An inside move on the back stretch of the 18th lap gained Perry second from Merrell. Merrell made an inside pass in Turn 4 of the 21st lap to reclaim second from Perry, and Brandi Ford used an inside pass in Turn 4 of the 23rd lap to take fourth from Goodwill. Hanestad cruised to victory ahead of Merrell and Perry. Ford crossed the line fourth, only to lose the finish for being slightly under weight at the scales. This moved Billy Fraser into fourth as Goodwill rounded out the top five finishers.
