MERCED, California -- Point leader Ramie Stone scored his eighth 25 lap IMCA Modified feature win of the season Saturday night at Merced Speedway. Keith Van Houten won his tenth Central Valley Sportsman main event of the season to maintian his point lead. Monty Tomlinson Jr. raced to his second straight CCMR Food 4 Less Series 25 lap Street Stock main event victory. Rookie Cliff Daniels captured his second 20 lap Pure Stock main event win, and Sam Fries won the 25 lap main event for the visiting NCMA Modified Sprint Cars.

Bruce Trindade won his IMCA Modified heat race ahead of R. Stone, while Ramie's brother Troy stone claimed four lap Tropy Dash honors. Still looking for his first win of the season, second ranked Bob Williamson led the opening five tours of the main event before R. Stone made his move with an inside pass. R. Stone would lead the rest of the way for the victory. Bob Williamson maintained second in points by holding of his son Bobby Williamson for a second place finish.

Van Houten finished second to defending champion Kevin Freitas in the six lap Central Valley Sportsman heat race, but he came back to win the four lap Trophy Dash. Once Van Houten drove the Bill Baker owned car into the main event lead, he checked out to win by a wide margin. The battle was for second between Rob Schropp and Freitas. Schopp held second until Freitas made his move late, but there was no catching Van Houten as he cruised to victory in front of Freitas and Schropp.

The closest championship battle at the track is for the Street Stock title, and point leader John Clarke had a bad night as he loaded his #15 car after mechanical problems in his heat race. Tomlinson had a solid night with a win in his six lap heat race and a second in the four lap Trophy Dash behind Danny Baldridge Jr. Tomlinson ran strong in the main event, and the 2001 Chowchilla Speedway champion held off three time Merced Speedway champion Darren Thomas for the feature victory. Baldridge settled for third. Trailing Clarke by 19 points coming into the night, Phil Priddy gained a little ground with a seventh place feature finish.

Speedy Davis scored the victory in his six lap Pure Stock heat race by a wide margin before Dan Holcomb won the four lap Trophy Dash. Point leader Raul Rodriguez Sr. took the night off, and second ranked Daniels made the most of his opportunity to gain ground. Daniels won a close battle with Davis late in the race to score the main event victory. Aaron Widick finished third.

Coming off a third place finish the night before at Chowchilla Speedway, Sam Fries won both his six lap heat race and the four lap Trophy Dash for the NCMA Modified Sprints. Point leader Scott Holloway scored the other heat race win. In heat race action, Steve Amador took a wicked tumble when his car hit the concrete barrier, cartwheeled up into the air and took out the water pipe that is used to fill the water trucks at the track. Fortunately, he was not injured. Fries capped a clean sweep with an impressive feature win ahead of the surprising Leon Holloway and Burt Siverling.####
