HORNET CHAMPIONSHIP CLOSEST RACE IN THE COUNTRY, WHITE SEALS STOCK PONY DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP AT THEORANGE SHOW SPEEDWAY

SAN BERNARDINO, California -- The hornet championship is heating up, the top three positions are within five points of each other, and that is closer than any four-cylinder division in the country. With three races left in the season, any of the three could win. The #04 of Stan Youngblood (last year's division champion), the #08 of Danny Gutierrez, and the #00 of "The Rookie" Tony Thompson. The hornets were fast Saturday night, with the #08 of Danny Gutierrez breaking the track record in qualifying. Sky Lundy in the #01 qualified after the #08 and broke the track record again. The trophy dash went to the #04 of Stan Youngblood. Heat race #1 was won by Gutierrez, and #2 was won by the #00 of Tony Thompson out of Lake Matthews. The main event was hard racing, with another rookie taking the main. Stephannie Williams of Riverside in the #18 Honda Prelude started on the pole and fought hard for the win. She was challenged by Youngblood in the #04, followed closely by the #08 of Gutierrez, the #00 of Thompson, and the #01 of Sky Lundy. The Press Enterprise Stock Ponys ran two 25-lap main events. Fast time went to the #60 of Erik Spring out of Lake Arrowhead. The trophy dash was won by the #98 of Linsey White. White, out of Colton wrapped up the division championship with a second place finish in the first main, and a win in the second main event. The first main was won by Dennis Silvers in the #01, followed by White, the #60 of Spring, the #37 of William Cottrell, and Gary Patton out of San Bernardino in the #19 finished fifth. In the second main event, White crossed the line first, followed by the #19 of Patton, the #01 of Dennis Silvers, the #37 of Cottrell, and Adrianne Murlin in the #03 finished fifth. Bandoleros were good racing, with the #2 of Dave Green winning both the trophy dash and the main event. The #88 of Greg Steele was second, followed by Chad Vinot in the #3. Robin Hood Pizza Junior Lightning Cups trophy dash was won by the #93 of Jeffrey Goddard. Goddard, after switching cars, also won the dash for the Junior Hornet division. Goddard continued his streak with a win in the Lightning Cup main event. In second place in the Lightning Cups was the #17 of Cody Hart, followed by the #99 of Brent Scheidemantle, the #28 of Nick Willhite, and the03 of Kristen Symonds. The adult Lightning Cups division brought more good racing. In the trophy dash, the #51 of Joseph Anderson crossed the finish line first. Heat race #1 was won by Dean Caskey in the #08 and Keith Cummins in the #29 won the second heat. Jason Estes in the Hemet Family Auto Racing #05 won the main event, his first outing in this division. Estes took it on the last lap coming out of turn four from the veteran #41 of Mike Brown. Third went to Zack Stout in the #58, followed by the #51 of Anderson and Dean Caskey in the #08 took fifth. The Junior Hornet main event was won by hard working Kenny Christiansen in the #87. He was followed by the #15 of Richard Turner, the #93 of Goddard, and the #25 of Sean Steele. Legends spots were challenged all night long, from the front to the back. In the Semi-Pro division, the trophy dash was won by Charles Price out of Redlands in the #52, a 34 Ford. Heat race #1 was won by the #68 of Tom Skahill, and Robert Graham in the #26 won the second Heat. In the main event, the #360 of Steve Twilligear finished first, followed by the #17, Charles Price in the #52, the #4, and Graham in the #26. Pro's and Masters were action from start to finish. In the trophy dash the #3 of Chris Clyne out of Las Vegas, NV took the win. Heat race #1 was won by the #8 of Tom Lovelady, and Dave Doll in the #62 took the second Heat. Veteran racer Jim Smith in the #28 won the main, followed by another veteran, Art Neville in second. Doll in the #62 took third, followed by the #09 of Donnie Akers and in fifth was the #13 of Gary Scheurell. Clyne, in his first appearance at the Orange Show finished a respectable 9th. Next week - the Hornets Return, along with the Late Model Division with twin 30 lap races, Pacific West Technology Street Stocks, Bombers and Lady Bombers, and the Junior Racing League.
