MIKE DAVID & LYNCH RACING HEAD NORTH….

Saturday, September 21, 2002 Lynch Racing along with the other top west coast race teams will be apart of the return of the Winston West Series to Douglas County Speedway in Oregon for the first time in over 3 decades.

“We are going in to this weekend with a real positive outlook. We had tried some new things the last couple short track races that didn’t get us going in the direction we had hoped for. So, we’re getting back to some of the basics this weekend”, said David. “For the last two races of the season we’re going to stick with what we know has worked for us in the past. With a strong finish at Douglas Country we could lock up our “Stage 8 Fasteners Rookie of the Year” title. Winning the Rookie of the Year will be a big boost for the whole team and really give us something to build on for next year”.

An interesting fact is that Randy Lynch, owner of Lynch Racing has history at Douglas County Speedway. In the 1970’s he was crew chief for Bob Link’s Winston West team. “I remember the last time we ran Douglas County Speedway”. Lynch says. “That was when it wasn’t unusual to run on a Friday night, load up, drive all night and run the same car the next night. The last time we ran Douglas County we had an average finish with Bob, but then we loaded up and headed to Portland because Hershel (McGriff) was scheduled to drive our car the next night. It was one of those nights I’m sure all race teams have had. Our tow rig threw a rod and made us so late we didn’t arrive in Portland in time for Hershel to practice or get fitted in the car. He jumped in and headed out for his heat race… that’s back when they ran heat races. In an 8-car heat race Hershel started 8th. On the first lap halfway around the track Hershel was leading the race. To this day it was one of the most amazing pieces of driving I’ve seen. I have good memories of running up north.”

The Winston West Series will take the to the track at 5:30 PM, for qualifying. The Napa Auto Parts – Winston West 200 is scheduled to go green at 8:00 PM.
