Joe Benedetti grabbed his first pole of the 2002 season in the NASCAR Northwest Tour when he paced the Yakima oval at a speed of 18.929. The draw for the invert was 4, which would have put Troy Conrad on the pole for at least the first lap, if not for the fact that he missed the drivers meeting. Unfortunately Conrad will start from last, not first.

Kevin Hamlin burnt up his rear end during practice and will be using the car of Travis Bennett. Jeff Jefferson was the 6th car out to qualify and held the fastest time until the 19th car of Kevin Hamlin went out and was faster, but it was a short time until the 21st car of Benedetti went out and took the honors of the Bud Pole at Yakima Speedway
