SACRAMENTO, California -- The first of three 600 Multi Sprint events was held on the quarter-mile dirt oval at Sacramento Raceway Friday night. 2002 Delta Speedway champion Bradley Galedridge scored the 20 lap feature victory ahead of double heat race winner Garrett Boyden and Shawn Wright.
The 600 Multi Sprints ran two sets of eight lap qualifying heat races. Boyden won the first heat race, and a last lap pass on Chase Baker gained Rick Cook Jr. the win in his first heat race. Wright was the other winner in the first set of heat races, just ahead of BCRA Midget racer Ralph Cortez. A low pass in the final turn in his second heat race gained Boyden another heat win as Mike Trimble settled for second. Cook Jr. easily won his second heat as his father, Rick Cook Sr., was the other heat winner in the second set of heats.
BCRA veteran Jeff Lee was a feature scratch, and the race had to be restarted as Cook Jr. rolled in Turn 2 without injury. Galedridge beat Boyden on the start to set the early pace as Trimble ran third ahead of Wright and Nicole Miller. Cortez slipped past Miller for fifth on lap two, and the leaders were into slower traffic by lap five. Robbie Hight and Charlie Kemp retired on lap 12, and an inside move on the front stretch of the 16th lap gained Cortez fourth from Trimble. The only caution flag flew after 16 laps as Trimble spun in Turn 1 trying to regain fourth. The caution flag wiped out a big Galedridge lead, but he stayed smooth and led the rest of the way for the impressive win as Boyden, Wright, Cortez, Miller, Trimble and Cook Sr. rounded out the lead lap finishers. Chase Baker, Steve Bell and Dennis Eaton rounded out the top ten finishers a lap down.
