
FRESNO, California -- Davey Hamilton’s SRL Wild West Shootout returns to Stockton99 Speedway this Saturday for the final event of the season. Last Saturday at Altamont Raceway Park, Jeff Anthony of Livermore California clinched the championship with a third place finish. Currently Anthony leads Tracy California driver, and winner at Altamont this past week Rick Ruzbarsky by 64 points.
Right behind Ruzbarsky is when the battle begins to heat up. Nathan Tucker the 2001 SRL Wild West Shootout champion is only three points out of second position. Ray Lawson Jr. of Fresno sits just five points out of second position. Lawson has two victories on the year, both at Madera Speedway. Tucker has one victory, which was at Stockton99 Speedway. Ruzbarsky coming off his victory leads Joey Zampa of Napa California in Rookie of the year standings by 40 points. Zampa also currently sits fifth in the overall championship race.
Tim Stratmeyer the 2001 SRL Wild West Shootout rookie of the year is in sixth place just eight points shy of cracking a top five overall finish. Ron Strmiska Jr. of Manteca California won the opening race of the season at Stockton 99 Speedway currently holds down seventh position. Fremont California driver Troy Ermish who has been on a hot streak with three top five finishes in the last three races maintains the eight position. Michael Carver who had his best finish of the year at Altamont last Saturday stands in ninth position with Petaluma’s Ed Coughenour rounding out the top ten.
Series Notes: Jeff Anthony the 2002 Champion leads all drivers with three victories and ten top ten finishes this season. Rick Ruzbarsky leads all drivers with four quick times this year. Ruzbarsky also clinched the 2002 Qualifying Points championship. Ripon California driver John Gaalswyk picked up his first shootout victory at Stockton99 Speedway just two weeks ago on September 14th. Joey Zampa has qualified in the top five in the last three events. Joey has set quick time at Madera and Stockton this season.

Pit gates will open on Saturday. September 28th. At 1:30 p.m. Spectator gates will open & practice will start at 3:00, with time trials at 5:00, and racing at 6:00. Prices are set at $20.00 for adults, $5.00 for children (age 6-9) $15.00 for seniors (age 65 & up) & students (age 10-17). A family Pack good for two adults and four children is available for $45.00. Kids, five & under are always admitted free at Stockton 99 Speedway. Stockton99 Speedway will also have a huge Fireworks display.![]()
