STOCKTON, California -- A duel Late Model program is on tap to close the regular season at Stockton 99 Speedway this Saturday, September 28th, with the final race of the HOTWOOD Western Late Models, the premier class in the track?s NASCAR Weekly Racing Series presented by DODGE, and The last of four season events for the SRL Late Model Wild West Shootout Series.
While the championship title is already decided for the Western Late Models, there is a spirited battle for second between Wes Miller of Turlock and Tracy Bolin of Valley Springs, with Miller only 13-points ahead and 59-points available on the night.
Jeff Anthony of Livermore holds the current point lead in the Wild West Series with past Stockton stand out Nathan Tucker of Sonora running third. Two other Stockton standouts are Joey Zampa of Napa in 5th, and Ron Strmiska, Jr., of Manteca in 7th.
Strmiska, Tucker, and John Gaalswyk of Ripon hold the feature wins for the past three 2002 events, and will be strong contenders for the 100-lap win this week.
The final event for Pro-Four Trucks will also be staged as the truck count continues to grow and the racing is becoming more intense race after race. Gary Franks of Manteca has become the truck to beat, but his dominance is slowly being challenged by up and coming runners.
Add to this the season ending Pure Stock Powder Puff event for the gals of racing who don?t mind a broken nail or two on their way to victory lane, and a chance to ?scratch? that other woman in their man?s life. Top it all off with a huge FIREWORK display to delight young and old and you have the makings for a great final night of racing in the Central Valley.
As the current Stockton racing season comes to a close, the battle for Rookie of the Year honors also comes into play. Four Grand American and three Pure Stock drivers have met the 50% requirement of races run with John Moore of Granite Bay leading the Grand AM contingent over Kyle Gottula of Modesto, and Doug Lane of Stockton. Dave Ball of Stockton heads the list for the Pure Stocks, followed by Larry Moore of Lodi and Johnny Rose of Stockton.
Voting in the SUBWAY SANDWICH most popular driver award contest has come to an end, and the numbers shows Joe Hylton of Manteca as the winner in Late Model, and Chad Holman of Stockton at the top of the Pure Stock standings. While the voting has been spirited, no single Grand American driver scored the required 50-votes to qualify for the award in that division.
