THE RACE: The Las Vegas Motor Speedway is a superspeedway with turns banked 12 degrees, nine degrees banking in the dogleg and three degrees banking in the straights. The track has hosted nine NASCAR Winston West Series races.

2001 REVIEW: Although Jon Wood won the Bud Pole Award, it was Scott Riggs who dashed into the early lead. As the pair pulled away, with Austin Cameron in their wake, Brendan Gaughan began making his way to the front. Wood slipped into the lead briefly on lap 37 and again on lap 46. It was Gaughan, however, who flexed his muscle to take over the top spot on lap 47. After a brief early-race yellow, the action went caution-free for 56 laps – leaving competitors to make pit stops under green-flag conditions. Wood's fuel-starved car stalled on pit lane, leaving him two laps down. Although Gaughan made his pit stop and relinquished the point to Riggs on lap 63, he was able to chase down the leader and regain the top spot on lap 80. Riggs dropped out of contention after contact with the turn three wall on lap 90. The ensuing restart set up a five-lap chase to the checkered flag – with Gaughan holding off Cameron for the win.

THE ORLEANS 150 SUMMARY:

• The Orleans 150 is the 10th and final race on the NASCAR Winston West Series schedule for 2002. It is the second visit to LVMS this year. The circuit visited The Bullring at LVMS in April.

• This event is the final of four superspeedway races on the NASCAR Winston West Series 2002 schedule. The circuit also traveled to Phoenix, Fontana and Kansas City.

• Eight different drivers have visited victory lane in the nine series events on the 1.5-mile facility at LVMS. Ken Schrader has two victories (1996 and 1997) – while Brendan Gaughan, Kevin Harvick, Andy Houston, Gary Smith, Jerry Nadeau, David Starr and Kevin Richards each have one.

• Gaughan is the only driver with more than one Bud Pole Award on the Las Vegas superspeedway. He won one in the fall event in 1999 and another in the only series visit to the track in 2000. Drivers with a single Bud Pole Award on the big track include Schrader, 1996; Sammy Potashnick, 1997; Kenny Wallace, 1997; Harvick, 1998; Mike Chase, 1998; Nadeau, 1999; and Jon Wood, 2001.

• Although he has yet to reach victory lane on the 1.5-mile track, Austin Cameron has run well there. He finished in the runner-up position in three of the past four series races at the superspeedway. He has the most top-five finishes in series competition, with five. With $52,705 in winnings, he tops the list in terms of money won in series competition. The only LVMS race in which Cameron competed in and did not finish in the top five was a 32nd-place finish in his debut with the NASCAR Winston West Series in February of 1998.

• Scott Gaylord has competed in the most series events at the 1.5-mile Las Vegas track – taking the green flag in eight of the nine races.

• Harvick has led the most laps of series competition at Las Vegas. He led a total of 121 laps – seven in the fall race of 1997, 89 in the spring race of 1998 and 25 in the fall race of 1998. Incidentally, Harvick's first race in the NASCAR Winston West Series was the inaugural event in November of 1996, in which he started fourth and finished 13th.

• Gaughan, a two-time series champion and the winner of this event last year, will make his first return to the series since graduating to the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series for 2002.

• Jason Small is also slated for double-duty at Las Vegas. The series Rookie-of-the-Year in 1999 has entered Saturday's The Orleans 150 and will also compete on Sunday in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, where he is 22nd in the championship standings.

• A Chevrolet has been in victory lane for eight of the nine series races on the Las Vegas superspeedway.
