Racing runs in the Woods family. Rick Woods was one of the best riders to ever mount a speedway motorcycle, winning the sport’s national championship in 1968, '70 and '72. His exploits inspired his younger brother Gene to begin a racing career of his own which has included speedway bikes, where he also won three AMA National Championships, sprint cars, spec trucks and this season the NASCAR Wisnton West series.
This weekend the brothers will reunite as Rick will join Gene’s Winston West team as the new spotter for the CNWB.com/Auto Trader/Dodge Intrepid for the season ending Orleans 150 at Las Vegas before taking over the position full time for the 2003 season. Gene is quite excited about having his brother join the team. "I'm not saying this because he is my brother, I think many people agree 'he was the greatest motorcycle racer I have ever seen’. I feel very secure with him as my spotter. With his racing background and growing up with him in the pits, as he has been all through my racing for the last 30 years, what more could you ask for!"
