The action was hot and heavy Sunday afternoon at the I10 Speedway located at the Colorado River Fairgrounds in Blythe, CA. Robert Davis from Arizona was the winner of the Towel City Tires/Sunoco Fuels Pure Stock main event, which saw a whopping 20 cars in the pits. Eddie Secord was the winner of the Bud Light Pro 4 main event ahead of Steve Bernardi. Las Vegas champion and former Blythe racer Glen Burke was the winner of the Lucas Oil Late Model main event. In the Hornet Exhibition Sky Lundy took the win over Ronnie Everhart with Kenny Christiensen and Shawn Steele also competing. A number of Bombers from the Orange Show Speedway helped the Towel City Tire/Sunoco Fuels Pure Stocks set the 20 car field. Before afternoon practice there were already three cars out for the evening with Brian Malone, Bob Pattison, and Dave Foster out with problems. For the second straight race it was Jacob Forbis setting fast time with a 16.948 lap, Jimmy Rouse was second quick with a 17.146 lap. Third quick was Rick Layman in the Buick with in the Anti Spin-Fin Shark as he circled in 17.275 second and fourth quick was Dave Gobrick in the S.S. Bomber and smokestacks going through the roof and he circled in at a 17.441. For the trophy dash it was the SS Bomber, and the Shark on the front row, Rouse took command of the dash and paced Davis and Layman. Sporting a wing on the back of his car, Johnny Del Pino raced to the first win of his young career in heat 1 over the son and father combo of Thomas and Kevin Hall. In the second heat, it belonged to George Olmstead over Jake Everhart and Brian Faulkner. The 25-lap main event got off to a start with pole-sitter Davis taking the lead over Blake Usilton. Michelle Docks and Mike Reynolds caused a traffic jam on the front-stretch on lap 2 with Gobrick in the SS Bomber done for the day after a bout with the wall. Forbis took over third on lap 4 and started chasing down the leaders. Reynolds and Downes got stuck together for a lap 6 caution as Downs was dragging her bumper after the contact and pitted. Rouse and Olmstead pushed Forbis back to fifth on lap 8 and John Mattie spun on the front stretch on lap 10, but continued with no caution. Before lap 12 ended Rouse and Olmstead were by Usilton for the 2-3 positions on the track behind Davis. On lap 13 Del Pino spun in front of the leaders, some 3 wide racing left Mattie hard in the front wall, but he continued. Forbis moved around Usilton on lap 13 and started his way to the front with Layman on his tail. A lap 19 yellow was thrown when Everhart spun on the front stretch. Reynolds popped a tire and spun on the front stretch for a lap 19 caution with Forbis pitting. Another lap was completed before Everhart rode down the front wall on two wheels and his hood popping up. Everhart found the exit and was done for the day. Layman got by Usilton and followed the top 3. Reynolds popped another tire and contact between Olmstead and Rouse in turn 3 on lap 23 caused a caution. Rouse was put in the back, along with Olmstead who pitted with a flat. The final 3 laps saw Davis hold off Layman and Usilton for the win. Layman rocketed out of his car and started pounding Davis’s roof on the front stretch. Faulkner was fourth ahead of Kevin Hall. In Bud Light Pro-4 Modifieds there was an 8 car field ready to battle. Eddie Secord was fast time with a 14.496 followed by Steve Bernardi at 14.775, Tim Carruthers in the Tim Clyde car at a 14.797 and Mike Scheidecker at 15.346. Secord won the dash over Bernardi and Scheidecker. John Soares claimed the heat by a ¼ lap over Curt Larson. The 35-lap main event Scheidecker into the early lead with Curt Larson pitting on lap 2 with a broken axle. Bernardi took the lead on lap 3 and held it over Scheidecker and Clyde in a tight race. When lap 10 went in the books the line shuffled as Secord was now second over Soares and Scheidecker. A lap 19 spin by Scheidecker knocked him down the line. Action occurred on lap 25 and contact between Secord and Bernardi send them spinning and both going to the rear. Soares now led Carruthers, Secord and Bernardi as Spring pulled off the track. Soares broke on lap 30 and Secord took the lead over Bernardi and Clyde. That’s how top 3 finished, and they placed ahead of Sheidecker and Soares. There were 13 Lucas Oil Late Models on hand, but Terry Lipscomb crashed in practice, and Bobby Keirns lost a motor in qualifying to end their days. John Atwood paced the field in qualifying as he circled the track in 15.463 seconds. Richard Kerr was second quick with a 15.500, while Burke stopped the click at 15.532 and Mesa Marin Rookie of the Year, Jason Pattison checked in at 15.583. Pattison claimed the dash over Kerr and Burke. Ryan Becker in his truck held off Richard Hooper for the win in the Late Model heat while OSS Late Model contender Ken Christiensen was third. Burke took control of the 35-lap main event on the first lap as he held off Pattison, Atwood, and Kerr. Lonnie Paulus spun for a lap 3 caution and pulled off. Kerr moved into second on lap 3 and started chasing Burke. Hooper smacked the wall and Mark Schriner spun on the front stretch for a lap 5 caution with Hooper, Pattison, and Charles Price all pitting and only Hooper and Pattison returning. Christiensen crashed in the turn 4 wall for a lap 7 caution as Burke still led with Kerr now second over Atwood. That all changed on lap 8 when contact from Atwood spent Kerr in the spin-cycle, both were sent to the rear. Burke now led over Randy and Ryan Becker as the Becker family was sitting second and third. Another caution popped out on lap 10, this time it was contact from Kerr that sent Atwood spinning, again both were sent to the rear. Pattison moved into fourth on lap 14 as he moved by Schriner. Atwood and Kerr pushed Schriner back on lap 17. Pattison moved around Ryan Becker on lap 24 and Schriner got back by Kerr. Kerr’s car was making squeaking noises after the contact, and was never in contention after the incident. Pattison moved around Randy Becker for the number 2 position on lap 30, but it was all Glen Burke as he took the win over Pattison, Randy and Ryan Becker, and John Atwood.
