Phoenix, Ariz. (November 6, 2002) Burney Lamar of W. Sacramento, Calif. captured his fifth Bud Pole of the season with a blistering lap of 27.393/131.420 mph to lead 59 Featherlite Southwest Series, NASCAR Touring drivers in qualifying for the Cruise America "125" Thursday afternoon at Phoenix Int'l Raceway. Ken Schrader will line up on the outside of row number one followed by Frank Maronski Jr., Benny Gordon, and young Danny Burson rounding out the top five.

Championship point leader Eddy McKean will line up eighth and Raybestos Brakes Northwest Series champion Kevin Hamlin starting tenth. M.K. Kanke who was in second place in the point standings going into the event withdrew his car due to mechanical problems, leaving the title chase to Burney Lamar who is 103 points back. McKean needs to finish 28th or better no matter how Lamar finishes tomorrow's 125-lap sprint.

Other notable qualifiers include NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Star Matt Crafton who will start ninth, 2001 Featherlite Southwest Series Champion Craig Raudman lining up 15th, and the return of Darrell LaMoure griding 19th. Steve Carlson, the 2002 RE/MAX Series Champion will start 39th. Drivers not making the starting line-up include multi-time winner Scott Hansen, RE/MAX regular Tim Schendel, and ALL PRO Series veteran Stanley Smith.

The Cruise America "125" will take the green flag at 3:45 MST on Thursday, November 7.
