** USAR Hooters Pro Cup Series: Bobby Gill won the final race of the season but Jason Sarvis clinched the 2002 championship in the Four Champions Memorial Hooters 300 at USA International Speedway in Lakeland, Fla.
Gill’s victory was his 14th of the 2002 season and the sixth of his USAR career at USA. But Sarvis gathered enough points to clinch the championship by finishing fourth in the race.
Goodyear is the sole tire supplier for the Series.
The unique post-season format for USAR stock cars ended with Sarvis edging Gill 853-804 in the championship standings. Steven Christian finished third with 790 points, Jay Fogleman was next with 777 and Brian Ross rounded out the top five with 773.
Sarvis won two of the five post-season races. He ended Gill’s three-year reign as Series champion.
In the race, Gill held off a charging Joe Gaita for the win. Ross, the outstanding rookie, finished third behind Gaita. Sarvis was fourth and Jay Fogleman finished fifth.
