STEVE PORTENGA TO RUN FOR WINSTON WEST TITLE

Steve Portenga is returning to the Winston West Series after running the Craftsman Truck Series for the 2002 season. Steve will drive the Performance Motorsports # 77 Ford Taurus.

Steve brings impressive credentials back to the series after a one year absence. His first fulltime year in the series, 1999, he finished 5th in the final standings and collected his first win at the inaugural Irwindale Speedway event. In 2000, he finished a career high third place in the final standings. In the 2001 season, Steve collected two victories and finished fourth in the season standings. In 1991 he also won a NASCAR Weekly Racing Series Championship in the Sportsman Division at Silver State Raceway in Carson City, Nevada.

Steve is one of only two drivers to win two championships in NASCAR's Featherlight Southest Tour Division, in 1994 and 1998.

Performance Motorsports, based out of Glendora, Calif. has fielded entries in the Winston West since 1998. Previous drivers have included Greg Pursley, who finished in the top ten in 2002 and was second in the Rookie of the Year battle, Joe Bean, who finished a career high third in the final standings and Neville Lance from Australia.

Returning to Performance Motorsports and taking a more active role is King Taco Restaurants. King Taco restaurants is a family owned operation with 25 locations throughout Southern California. King Taco Restaurants can also be found at California Speedway and Dodger Stadium. Big motorsports fans, the company also sponsors many karting events for youngsters.
