Moses Smith, who has been involved with auto racing since the young age of three, knows “winning”. Both on and off the track, Moses is a standout for his professionalism, both as a racecar driver and businessman.
Rather than relying on funds from friends and family, Moses took any and all employment he could find that could be considered racing related. Moses’ resume includes driving instructor (Jim Hall Racing Schools; Bob Bondurant School of High Performance; Skip Barber Racing School); Crew Chief for a Star Mazda Pro Team; Test Driver for Star Mountain Racing; Crew Chief for a USAC Midget Team; Fabricator for Stewart Racing Products; and Mechanic for Team Medlin.
Currently, as a facilitator, Moses is Precision Dynamic’s “Featured Driver.” PDI (www.pdiusa.net) is a company providing its clients with the highest level of creativity, service and professionalism for vehicle evaluations, launch training and communications.
While 2002 was only Moses’ first full year in the Star Mazda arena, with the help of his sponsors, HASA Pool Products, RSport, and JO-Z Enterprises, Moses managed an impressive season. Of the seventeen events he participated in, Moses scored eight pole position; won eight races; took five second place positions; and managed to stay in the top five finishers sixteen times out of the seventeen races.
Moses’ efforts earned him the 2002 SCCA SoPac Formula Mazda Championship and the 2002 West Coast Star Mazda Championship. Smith also finished the 2002 Star Mazda North American Pro Series in second place.
Most notable is the fact that Moses was the only driver in this highly competitive Pro Series to have collected wins on both the Oval and Road Courses. Further, he also managed to end the nine race championship with back-to-back wins (race eight at Laguna Seca and the last race at Road Atlanta), missing the championship by a single point.
