SCOTTS VALLEY, Calif. -- Butch Gilliland maintained a slim seven-point lead in the NASCAR Winston West Series championship standings with a runner-up finish at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on June 7.
*** Bill McAnally, Kevin Culver and Dan Obrist, each moved up one position in the NWWS championship standings following the June 7 race.
*** In the five regular NASCAR Winston West Series races this season, there hace been five different Busch Pole winners -- Gilliland, Sean Woodside, Gary Smith, Gary Collins Sammy Potashnick.
*** Smith has the highest average finish among NASCAR Winston West Series competitors in this season. His average in the first five regular races is 2.8.
*** Smith is the only driver in the series to finish in the top 10 in all five regular races.
*** Woodside has led the most laps this year in the five regular races. He has led the way for 236 laps, which means he has had the Cine3ma Vehicle Services/Unocal Pontiac out front 278 percent of the time.
*** Smith has completed the most laps in the five races. He has run 849m which is 99.88 percent of the 850 laps possible.
*** Chevrolet has edged in front of Ford in the chase for the Manufacturers' Championship in the series. Chevrolet leads with 35 points and three wins. Ford has 34 points and two wins. Pontiac follows with 26 points.
*** Two NASCAR Winston West Series drivers celebrating birthdays during the month of June are Vic MiBelli and Pappy Pryor. MiBelli will turn 34 on June 16 and Pryor will turn 66 on June 30.

*** This will be the 12th stand-alone event on a superspeedway for the NASCAR Winston West Series in its modern era, 1971 to present. Eight of the races were at Phoenix International Racewa, one each year from 1977 to 1984. The series held one stand-alone event at Ontario (Calif.) Motor Speedway in 1977.
