Wrapping up Tucson
* Twelve drivers finished on the lead lap of the season opening race in January. The NWWS record for the most drivers on the lead lap was set at Portland Speedway in 1973 when 14 competitors finished on the lead lap.

* Ken Schrader led the most laps in the season-opener, keeping the BMR Motorsports Chevrolet out front for 90 of the 200 laps. Drivers trailing him in the category of laps led this season are Butch Gilliland 55, Kevin Harvick 40, Gary Collins 9, and Craig Raudman 6.

Turning to Vegas
* This is the second of 14 races this season and the first of two visits by the NASCAR Winston West Series to Las Vegas Motor Speedway this season. It is also the first of six Superspeedway races slated for the series in 1998.

* Schrader has the most NWWS victories at LVMS with two. The Fenton, Mo driver won the November race on the 1.5 mile Superspeedway in 1996 and 1997.

* While Schrader won the two fall races that have been held at LVMS, it was Gary Smith who won the spring race a year ago.

* Three different drivers have each won a Bud Pole Award at Las Vegas -- Schrader, Sammy Potashnick and Kenny Wallace.

* Seven of the drivers that finished in the top 10 in last year's event are expected to enter this year's race.

* Ten NASCAR Winston West Series drivers have competed in all three NWWS races that have been held at LVMS

* Chevrolet has visited victory lane in all three NWWS races that have been held at LVMS.

* Several drivers will make their debut with the NASCAR Winston West Series at Las Vegas. Among those expected to compete are three drivers who have raced in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series -- Lance Norick, Boris Said and T.J. Clark. Another newcomer expected to enter is Austin Cameron.

* Six NWWS drivers are celebrating birthdays during the month of february. Billy Kann turned 36 on Feb 14, Steve Sellers turned 49 on Feb 9, Rick Scribner turned 48 on Feb 10, Bruce Bechtel turned 43 on Feb 13, Wayne Jacks will turn 49 on Feb 21 and Butch Gilliland will turn 41 on Feb 25.
