CHAMPION MOTOR SPEEDWAY Super LateModel Series 2003 Rules and Regulations
- SLM 1.1
- All cars shall be subject to inspection by speedway officials, and in any manner determined by speedway officials. All decisions by speedway officials regarding the timing and manner of inspection as well as which cars will be inspected are final and not appealable.
- SLM 1.2
- Only those persons approved by speedway officials shall be admitted to the inspection area.
- SLM 1.3
- Speedway officials shall determine whether a car meets the applicable specifications for an event as set forth in the rulebook, as it may be amended from time to time, and any special rules published by Champion Motor Speedway for an event. Only cars determined by officials to meet the applicable specifications are eligible to compete in the event.
- SLM 1.4
- A competitor shall take whatever steps requested by a speedway official, including teardown of the car, to facilitate inspection of the car.
- SLM 1.5
- If a speedway official determines prior to the race that a car does not meet the applicable specifications, the car shall not be allowed to compete unless, in the discretion of the official, the deficiency (a) shall not adversely affect the orderly conduct of the race; (b) cannot be corrected in time for qualifying or for the race (if no qualifying); (c) will not provide the competitor with a significant competitive advantage over other competitors; and (d) is so insubstantial as to not warrant a determination that the car is ineligible to race.
- SLM 1.6
- If the speedway official permits the car to compete under the circumstances outlined above, the official shall apprise the competitor in writing of the deficiency, and if the deficiency has not been corrected, the car will be prohibited from competing in any future event occurring more than 72 hours after issuance of the deficiency notice.
- SLM 1.7
- Champion Motor Speedway has the right, for inspection purposes; to seal or impound cars or car parts entered and competing in an event. Champion Motor Speedway assumes no responsibility for impounded cars or car parts.
- SLM 1.8
- At an event where the Champion Motor Speedway rulebook or special rules mandate inspection after the event, no car that has competed in the event shall be taken from the racing premises without permission of a speedway official. If a speedway official determines after a race that a car does not meet applicable specifications, but the deficiency is so insubstantial as to not provide the competitor with a significant competitive advantage over other competitors, the official in the exercise of his or her sole discretion, may or may not impose a penalty, but shall apprise the competitor in writing of the deficiency, and the car shall be prohibited from competing in any future event if the deficiency has not been corrected occurring more than 72 hours after issuance of the notice.
- SLM 1.9
- Speedway officials have the right to confiscate any part and/or equipment, which fails to meet applicable specifications during an event.
- SLM 2.1
- Shall be painted, not primered. Shall be maintained in an attractive, professional manner.
- SLM 2.2
- A minimum 18" high, non-reflective two inch stroke number shall be placed on each of the two door areas, one on each side of the car. A minimum 18" high, two-inch stroke number shall also be required on the top of the car, with the car number visible from the grandstand tower. Roof numbers that may be confused if read uSLMide down (such as sixes and nines) shall have a line painted underneath. The officials shall have final approval as to the legibility of numbers. Tape shall not be permitted.
- SLM 2.3
- All numbers shall be easily visible from the grandstand tower during the day and under night lighting conditions. Speedway officials reserve the right to require competitors to alter or replace numbers that are not easily visible. Competitors who refuse to alter or replace numbers at officials' request and in a timely manner shall not be scored during racing competition.
- SLM 2.4
- All numbers shall be legible and visible at all times. Numbers shall be outlined or painted with legible paint schemes approved by Champion Motor Speedway. Champion Motor Speedway reserves the right to approve commercial or editorial messages lettered on competing cars.
- SLM 2.5
- All vehicle numbers shall be registered and on file at the Champion Motor Speedway administrative office. Vehicles shall not be admitted into the speedway until they are registered. Numbers may be required to be changed to avoid duplication. Triple-digit numbers or numbers including a letter (i.e. 69x, 13a) shall not be permitted to be registered or run.
- SLM 3.1
- American made passenger cars or trucks. After market bodies permissible.
- SLM 3.2
- Shall be securely fastened to frame and/or cage.
- SLM 3.3
- All cars shall run with front hood and fenders at all times unless damaged on that date's racing schedule.
- SLM 3.4
- Front and rear of bodies shall be enclosed.
- SLM 3.5
- Fender wells may be cut for tire clearance, and front inner and rear half of rear fenders may be removed on stock bodies. Rear half of rear fenders may be removed when a firewall separates the driver's compartment from the fuel cell. Driver's compartment must be sealed off from engine compartment. NO HOLES.
- SLM 3.6
- Floorboards that are removed shall be replaced with minimum 20-gage metal.
- SLM 3.7
- Bumpers mounted on stock appearing bodies shall be stock with no sharp edges. Bumper shall not exceed fender wells.
- SLM 3.8
- Hood and deck lid shall have springs removed, be operable and removable, and be secured by hood pins. Rear mounts may be on pivot mount.
- SLM 3.9
- Spoilers shall not be higher than 6" from the lowest point on deck lid, and shall not extend beyond the rearmost part of the body or wider than top of rear deck, must be clear lexan.
- SLM 3.10
- Windshield shall be of stock glass, Lexan or 1/4" mesh screen and be secured by metal strap of minimum 1/8" x 1", mounted in such a manner inside as to prevent entry of a tire into the driver's compartment, and to secure the windshield. No windshield shall have a crack that exceeds 10" in any direction. In all cases, safety considerations shall be strictly enforced.
- SLM 3.11
- Roof rails shall not exceed 1" in height.
- SLM 4.1
- Clutch and flywheel type optional. Minimum clutch diameter 7 1/4". Automatic transmission torque converter optional. Automatic transmissions must have an approved scattershield or blanket. Scattershield may be constructed of .25" x 4" steel, 270 degrees around flexplate or flywheel. Direct drives shall not be permitted. Oil coolers shall be mounted outside driver's compartment. SFI certified flexplate does not require scattershield.
- SLM 4.2
- Scatter shield of 360 degrees must be installed when a manual transmission is used.
- SLM 5.1
- Rear end type optional, floater hubs recommended. Axle housings must be steel. No titanium or magnesium. No live axles.
- SLM 5.3
- Bearing retainers shall be tacked to the axle.
- SLM 5.4
- Wheel studs shall be 1/2" minimum.
- SLM 5.5
- Maximum track width shall be 68", measured from center of tires approximately at spindle at axle height.
- SLM 5.6
- Aftermarket axles and retainers are recommended on GM rear ends.
Two weight divisions in this class depending on engine size.
- Option #1
- 1. Track Legal 2001 (3 year mandatory phase in).
- 2. 350 C.I. ZZ4 high performance Chevy Crate motor.
- 3. 355 HP sealed and sold through racetrack only or authorization of 4 BRL.
- 4. 750 CFM, carburetor minimum total weight 2900 lbs with driver and wet.
- 5. Maximum left side weight 57%.
- Option #2
- 1. Existing cars built within the last 5 years and with a handicap that will allow them to continue for 2 more seasons.
- 2. 500 CFM 2 BRL Holly #4412 with possible claim of none. Must be NASCAR spec. No porting or polishing. OEM booster only.
- 3. Choke plate and air horn may be removed.
- 4. Minimum weight 3200 with driver and wet.
- 5. Maximum left side weight of 55%.
- 6. V8 configuration any size with cast iron OE.
- 7. Cast iron heads.
- 8. No roller cams or lifters and no overhead cams.
- 9. Cast iron or aluminum intake manifold only.
- 10. Maximum of 1.125" adapter plate including gaskets carburetor to manifold.
- SLM 6.8
- One 500 CFM, 2BBL, Holley 4412 carburetor shall be used. A maximum of 1.125" shall be allowed between the top of the intake manifold and the bottom of the carburetor to facilitate an adapter plate, including gaskets. Carburetor modifications to enhance breathing capacity shall not be allowed. Choke plate and airhorn may be removed. All air-entering engine must pass through venturi. A $250.00 carburetor claim is in effect for this division. SEE GR 16.0.
- SLM 6.9
- Shall be of wet sump type. NO DRYSUMSLM. No external oil tanks.
- SLM 6.10
- Magneto ignition systems shall not be permitted. NO traction control allowed. Ignition boxes with traction control capability will not be allowed. An infraction of this rule will result in $1,000 fine, loss of all accumulated points and suspension from the Champion Motor Speedway for one calendar year from the date of infraction.
- SLM 6.11
- Setback shall not exceed most forward spark plug with alignment of lower ball joint. Fords shall be allowed 1" additional setback.
- SLM 6.12
- Minimum crankshaft height 11 inches.
- SLM 6.13
- Mufflers and exhaust shall be used on all racecars that enter the racing surface. Exhaust system shall be mounted in such a way as to direct spent gasses away from cockpit of vehicle and away from areas of possible fuel spillage. Mufflers shall be securely fastened. Shall not use wire or plumber's tape to secure muffler.
- SLM 7.1
- Battery shall not be mounted in the engine compartment. If the battery is mounted in the driver's compartment, it shall be completely enclosed. Battery shall be securely fastened. A battery shut-off switch shall be installed.
- SLM 7.2
- Radiator shall be mounted in the engine compartment ahead of the motor. Radiator shall have a catch tank for fluid overflow. Radiator shall be securely mounted.
- SLM 7.3
- Antifreeze shall not be allowed. Violators shall be fined $50.00 per occurrence.
- SLM 7.4
- Battery master kill switch required within easy reach of driver. This switch to be clearly marked "Off" and "On".
- SLM 8.1
- May be cut to lengthen or shorten to arrive at minimum 105" wheelbase. Shall not be stepped, sectioned, Z'ed, narrowed, or widened. May be boxed for reinforcement.
- SLM 8.2
- Unibody frames shall be connected with a minimum of 2" x 3", .120 wall box tubing.
- SLM 8.3
- A stock OEM front clip shall be used (i.e. Howe-3) but shall retain the basic design with the following modifications: Front frame OEM clip shall extend back to the leading edge of the bellhousing. Stock front cross member may be altered between the stock control arm mounts with fabricated tubing. STOCK LOWER CONTROL ARM MOUNTS MUST REMAIN IN STOCK LOCATION. Frame horns from 6" in front of center of front spring may be of any origin or manufacturer. Frames from the leading edge of bellhousing back may be of any origin or manufacturer and shall be contoured to body. Shall be symmetrical and shall not be offset to either side. Must be perimeter frame.
- SLM 9.1
- Shall not consist of black iron pipe or galvanized pipe.
- SLM 9.2
- Shall be 1 1/2" minimum size, with .095 wall minimum thickness.
- SLM 9.3
- Check holes shall be drilled by technical inspectors at any time and at any location on roll cage.
- SLM 9.4
- Shall be at least a six-point cage with four uprights connected at the top.
- SLM 9.5
- Shall have bar across windshield and have a center bar at roof halo.
- SLM 9.6
- Shall have three door bars on driver's side. Door bars must be plated with 1/8" steel or aluminum covering 2/3 of the door area.
- SLM 9.7
- If on passenger side, two bars are used, they shall be X'ed for cage reinforcement.
- SLM 9.8
- All welds on main cage shall be gusseted. Shall use high quality welds at all tube connections.
- SLM 9.9
- Rub rails are optional but must be within 1/2" of body. Ends must be turned into body; no open ends or capped ends. Must be constructed with maximum 1 1/2" OD round tubing.
- SLM 9.10
- Drive shaft hoop is required and shall be constructed of at least 1/4" by 2" steel and should be mounted no more than 6" back from front U-joint. Drive shaft shall be painted white.
- SLM 10.1
- All racecars shall be equipped with tow hooks, front and rear. Each tow hook shall be sturdy enough to support the weight of that end of the car. All hooks shall be easily reached and shall be painted white to distinguish hook area. All vehicles that do not conform to this rule shall be pushed into the infield until the race event is over. Tow vehicles shall not be responsible for damage caused to cars by inadequate tow hooks.
- SLM 11.1
- Shall apply to any chassis, except where permitted in other rules in this division. Heim joints permitted.
- SLM 11.2
- Upper A-arm mounts may be altered or changed. Upper A-arm may be tubular design and construction. Lower arms must be of stock, stamped steel design but may be altered or reinforced by addition of metal or cutting.
- SLM 11.3
- No solid front axles; front shall be conventional, minimum 5" OD coil springs or torsion bars.
- SLM 11.4
- Front springs shall be mounted a minimum of 7" measuring from center of ball joint to center of spring. Coil spring shall be mounted in stock position in relation to A-arm.
- SLM 11.5
- Rear suspension shall be either coil or leaf springs and springs shall be located in same relationship to the frame rails on both sides. Minimum 5" OD springs. No coil-over eliminators.
- SLM 11.6
- No independent rear suspension permitted.
- SLM 11.7
- Three-point or truck arms are permitted. Must be solid links. No springs permitted. Rubber snubbers OK on upper link only.
- SLM 11.8
- Limit one shock per wheel; may be mounted outside front spring in any configuration; rear shocks may be mounted on frame or cage in any configuration. No coil-overs permitted.
- SLM 11.9
- Sway-bar may be mounted in any configuration.
- SLM 11.10
- Limit one weight jack to each wheel.
- SLM 11.11
- After market stabilizing arms, center links, etc., permitted.
- SLM 11.12
- Panhard bar, J-bar, Watts linkage permitted on rear ends.
- SLM 12.1
- Shall be a 9: American Racer EC84 compound 8.0/26.0 - 15S and/or 8.0/26.0 - 15SH. You must start the main event on the tire you used to qualify on. If a tire is replaced prior to the main event a 5- position penalty will be assessed. 2 tire changes will result in a position in the back.
- SLM 12.2
- Tire softening will not be allowed on the premises of the Champion Motor Speedway.
Penalty: 1st offense - $250 fine, loss of all accumulated points and 4 week suspension from the track. 2nd offense - $500 fine, loss of all accumulated points and suspension from the track for the remained of the season.
- SLM 12.4
- Maximum cost per tire shall not exceed $84.50 excluding tax.
- SLM 12.5
- Wheels (rims) shall be 8" maximum with 3/16" thickness.
- SLM 12.6
- Stock center rims shall not be permitted.
- SLM 12.7
- Tires shall not extend outside the wheel opening more than one inch.
- SLM 12.8
- Brakes shall be functional on all wheels.
- SLM 13.1
- For purposes of teching the minimum weight shall always be adhered to.
- SLM 13.2
- Violation of these rules shall result in disqualification and loss of position points and purse money for the date's scheduled races.
- SLM 14.1
- A made-for-racing seat shall be used. The seat shall be fastened to a steel reinforcement located on the floor pan. The seat shall not be fastened to the floorpan in the stock manner. There shall be a bottom and back support for the seat, and the back of the seat shall be attached to the roll bar. Head restraint and collar is recommended.
- SLM 14.2
- Made-for-racing seat belts and harnesses measuring 3" wide shall be used. Shoulder harness shall be secured to the roll cage 6" below shoulder level and secured behind the driver no farther back than 12". Harness shall be of the five-point design, which will include a belt to keep the driver from slipping through the bottom of the seat. Belts shall not be fastened to the floor pan in the stock manner. Belts shall be fastened to a structure, preferably to the same structure to which the seat will be fastened.
** BELTS AND HARNESSES MUST NOT BE MORE THAN 3 YEARS OLD**
- SLM 15.1
- Shall be located in a visible and completely accessible location in the pit area. Car number shall be painted on the extinguisher. This rule is mandatory.
- SLM 15.2
- An on-board fire extinguisher system is highly recommended to be placed in the vehicle. Automatic or trigger release on board fire system is recommended. Extinguisher shall be centrally located so that it may be activated from either side of the car.
- SLM 16.1
- Fuel shall not be blended with alcohol, ethers or other oxygenates (i.e. propylene oxide), Aniline or its derivatives, nitro compounds or additives of any other kind.
Penalty: 1st offense - $250 fine, loss of all accumulated points and 4 week suspension from the track. 2nd offense - $500 fine, loss of all accumulated points and suspension from the track for the remainder of the season.
- SLM 16.2
- Shall be a made-for-racing type cell.
- SLM 16.3
- Shall be mounted in the trunk area as far forward as possible. The area shall be completely sealed off from the driver's compartment with a solid metal firewall.
- SLM 16.4
- Mounts for fuel cell shall be welded to frame. Fuel cell shall not be lower than the lowest point on the frame. An approved roll over vent shall be installed on the fuel cell. Must have ground strap from filler neck to chassis. Fuel cell must not be lower then 8” from ground.
- SLM 17.1
- Top five finishers shall, without stopping at pits, immediately proceed to quarantine area for teching. Penalty for not immediately reporting to the tech area is disqualification.
- SLM 17.2
- All tires removed from the car shall be brought to the teching area.
- SLM 17.3
- Each car shall be teched for violations of rules relating to weight, percentage, and tires.
- SLM 17.4
- A car, which does not pass tech, shall be disqualified and shall forfeit all points and money for that date's racing schedule. See GR 15.5(b).
- SLM 17.5
- During the teching of a car, only one representative from that car shall be present as a witness. This does not preclude support persons from assisting in moving the car for teching.
- SLM 17.6
- If the car is found to be legal, the track shall reimburse driver for parts up to a maximum of $50.00. Drivers of cars found to be illegal shall not be reimbursed.
