CARSON CITY, Nevada -- Champion Motor Speedway announced today that the new “Sierra Mountain SuperSeries” presented by “76 Racing Fuel & the Plaza Hotel” will make it debut in 2003.
The new series is the brainchild of Champion Motor Speedway general manager Jeb Onweiler. The stock car show will feature Super LateModels from Champion Motor Speedway - taking on the Pro Stocks from All American Speedway.
Said Onweiler, “I called Rick Poppert over at All American Speedway one day, and told him about my idea. He agreed it would be a good deal for both racetracks. So I jotted down some ideas and presented it to Rick and Bill Dale, CEO of the Placer County Fair. (home of All American Speedway) We all saw a positive opportunity to work together and decided to give it a shot.”
All American Speedway will host the series on April 19, July 12, and August 30. The series will compete at Champion Motor Speedway on May 10, June 21, and August 21. All events will feature 125-lap main events.
Onweiler concluded with, “Right now we have the Plaza Hotel in Carson City and 76 Racing Fuel supporting the series, but we hope to bring some more contingency and cash sponsors in the picture. If things go as well as hoped for, we’ll probably try to expand the series from six to ten shows in 2004.”
