Getting to Phoenix International Raceway for NASCAR Winter Heat on February 1-2 could be difficult unless race fans and teams do some planning ahead.
The City of Avondale has performing much needed construction on 115th Avenue South of Interstate 10. The actual construction is a two-mile stretch between Interstate 10 and Maricopa County (MC 85) Road. While 115th Avenue has always been one of the main arteries into and away from PIR, fans are now encouraged to find alternate routes, including:
Exit I-10 at either Litchfield Road or Estrella Parkway, travel south, and follow the directional signs to the track. All signs leading to PIR will be orange with black letters.
The road construction is expected to continue throughout the spring and summer, but once completed, will result in a six-lane road from I-10 to MC 85. These improvements will greatly enhance the flow of traffic for the NASCAR Winston Cup Series race in early November.
As a reminder, tickets for all the remaining 2003 season, are available for
purchase by phone (602-252-2227) or in person at the track's downtown
Phoenix ticket office at the Arizona Center (3rd Street and Van Buren).![]()
