
UPLAND, California -- The Mechanix Wear Speed Truck Challenge 2003 racing season opener will be held at Lucas Oil I-10 Speedway on March 8th at the Colorado River Fairgrounds in Blythe, California.
As a very special television treat to the Blythe, California, Ehrenberg, Arizona and surrounding communities this weekend, they will see two broadcasts of the October 19th, 2002 Speed Truck Challenge race from the I-10 Speedway airing on Friday night, March 7th at 6:00 PM PST and again on Saturday morning March 8th at 9:00 AM PST on Blythe Cable Vision, channel 4. These two broadcasts will fire up the local communities with two great television shows of the Speed Truck Challenge from I-10 Speedway and get them primed and ready to come out and watch the Speed Truck Challenge race on Saturday night at 7:00 PM. Gates open at 5:00 PM, general admission tickets only $9.00 with a great "Family Pack Price" containing two general admission and three children (17 and under) ticket package for only $20.00. The March 8th race will be 99 laps in memory of Randy Brown #99, the 2002 Speed Truck Challenge Champion and winner of the October 19th, 2002 race at I-10 Speedway. Randy passed away on December 26th, 2002 from injuries sustained from a snow boarding accident. Bob Brown, Randy's father and crew chief will take a reverse lap in the #99 Speed Truck on Saturday night in memory of his son, friend, hero and champion. The start of the race will see a "missing man formation" from the starting field as will all races in 2003.
The Mechanix Wear Speed Truck Challenge travels the Southwest competing its truck racing series in an 18 event season for 2003 at Lucas Oil I-10 Speedway, Tucson Raceway Park, Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Mesa Marin Raceway, Cajon Speedway, Irwindale Speedway and Madera Speedway. The Speed Trucks are full tubed chassis,108 inch wheelbase, 330 horsepower V-8's with a 2 speed direct drive transmission and clutch pedal dump valve to an aluminum quick change rear end on 8 inch Hoosier Racing tires and will reach speeds of 140 MPH at Phoenix International Raceway.
