SPARKS, Nevada -- John Burritt piloted his No. 21 Burritt Motorsports, PLC Automation Inc, Greg Remund Drywall, Travelers RV Chevy to a runners up position in the opener of the MECHANIX WEAR SPEED TRUCK CHALLENGE held this past weekend in Blythe, Ca.
“We qualified second which put us on the outside of the front row for the trophy dash” said Burritt. On the drop of the green flag Burritt got a great start and jumped out to a two-truck length lead and never looked back. Burritt led all 6 laps and won the trophy dash.
After fast qualifier Dan DiGiacomo rolled the dice and inverted the top six qualifiers placing the No 21 on the inside of the fifth row for the main.
The pre-race was a tribute to our 2002 Champion Randy Brown. “It was tough to watch the No 99 truck go around the track without Randy at the wheel” said Burritt. He is missed by all of us. The No 99 truck made two backwards laps and was piloted by Bob Brown father of Randy Brown. “That’s has to be the hardest thing a parent ever has to go through” said Burritt. Burritt and his wife Jessica are expecting their first child in late May.
“At the start of the main our goal was to keep the truck clean and be there at the end to race for the win” said Burritt. By lap 10 the No 91 truck had moved into the lead and the No 21 truck was right on his rear bumper. It stayed that way pretty much the rest of the race. “We got one or maybe two shots at Lee but just could not get him to make a mistake”. “We matched our best finish from last year in the first race of the new season,” said Burritt and we are very pleased with that. My congratulations go out to Lee and the No 91 team on their Speed Truck Win.
“The last two weeks have been pretty exciting for me” said Burritt, I went to Las Vegas last weekend for the kick-off to the NASCAR race weekend and won the Legends Car Pro Division Race. I then came to Blythe that same weekend and set a new Track Record for Legend Cars at the I 10 Speedway. It was a great weekend. First winning in Las Vegas then coming to Blythe and setting the new track record, winning the trophy dash and winning the main.
We have been very busy in the off-season making big changes in our racing program of the 2003 season. We have been trying to wrap up the finishing touches on a sponsorship deal for the rest of the 2003 season as well as for 2004. Look for a press release soon.
Burritt Motorsports has a month off to prepare for their next race April 12th at Tucson Raceway Park.
