Inclement weather cancelled Bud Pole qualifying for Friday's Craftsman 200, giving Travis Kvapil his first No. 1 starting position in a NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race. Kvapil, driver of the No. 16 IWX Motor Freight Chevrolet, took the pole by virtue of his team's 2002 championship. The field was set via the series rulebook with most of the spots assigned based upon 2002 owner point standings.Kvapil twice has started second, most recently in 2001 at California Speedway when he wrapped up Raybestos Rookie-of-the-Year honors. Last year's runnerup finisher and current points leader, Rick Crawford, gained the other front row spot in his No. 14 Circle Bar Ford. Last year's Craftsman 200 winner Ted Musgrave starts third, followed by Ultra Motorsports teammate Jason Leffler, the Bud Pole winner in 2002 and one-lap record holder at the 1.366-mile speedway. All 34 teams entered in the 147-lap, 200-mile event will start the race.
