OAKLAND, California -- The SRL Wild West Late Model Shootout season opens this Saturday, March 22nd on Altamont Raceway Park's ½ Mile, and MUD-Racing.net drivers Rick Ruzbarsky, Chris Wadsworth and Mike Simpson are ready to lead the charge.
Rick Ruzbarsky out of Tracy, California is the newest addition to the MUD roster of drivers racing at local tracks and touring series throughout California. In 2002, Rick was not only the SRL Late Model Rookie of the Year, but was also crowned as the series Qualifying Champion. Rick and crew are prepared to make a run at the 2003 championship with their Alfred Mathews/Ken's Tire Service/Gil's Auto Body Pontiac Grand Prix. This team won the last SRL Late Model ShootOut race at Altamont and they hope they can continue right where they left off.
After a rough season in 2002, Chris Wadsworth from Oakley, California is ready to return to the series this year. Last season, Chris was plagued with engine problems and overall bad luck, but when his car was on the track it was always up front. Chris has raced in various divisions at all three tracks on the SRL Late Model schedule, and proved he can be competitive at all of them. So, watch out for Chris Wadsworth in his #10 Buzz Inn Restaurant Chevrolet Monte Carlo making a run for the championship.
Mike Simpson plans on making his SRL Late Model debut this Saturday. This driver who hales from Citrus Heights, California will be racing in various divisions in 2003. Mike is an Altamont veteran with two track championships under his belt in the Altamont Pro Truck division in 2001 and 2002. So we will see if Mike can carry his Altamont experience over to his new Simpson Construction sponsored SRL Late Model. Although Mike Simpson will not be running the full SRL schedule, watch for him to be working his way to the lead when the series is racing at Altamont.
