NEWS FROM OTHER WEEKEND RACING VENUES – WEEKEND OF MARCH 22-23, 2003GOODYEAR RACING

Shepard’s win came in the first of two WoO races over the weekend. Shepard was one of two Goodyear drivers to finish among the top three on Pike County’s 3/8-mile clay oval. Johnny Herrera finished third. Jac Haudenschild won his heat race and Shepard and Herrera finished first and second in their dash. The second race of the weekend was held at Houston Raceway Park. Mark Kinser recorded the fastest time in qualifying around the 4/10-mile clay oval, averaging 107.833 mph. Haudenschild won a heat race for the second night in a row. This weekend the series races twice at Texas Motor Speedway.
** NASCAR Winston West Series: The nine drivers who have announced they intend to compete for the Rookie of the Year Award come from three countries and two continents. They include a father and son team. Goodyear is the exclusive tire provider for the Winston West Series. Scott Lynch, the 1999 Rookie of the Year in the Featherlite Southwest Series who won a Winston West race last season, heads this year’s Winston West rookie list. Carl Harr, the 2001 CASCAR West titlist, and his son Daryl, the 2002 champ, will compete from their homes in Canada. Carl is Daryl’s father.
The other registered ROY competitors include Takuma Koga of Japan, Californians David Eshleman and Gene Woods, Colorado racers Scott Schmidt and Clint Vahsholtz and C.T. Hellmond of Texas.
