ANTIOCH, California -- Charging from eighth starting to the lead in just two laps, defending champion Darrell Hanestad cruised to his second 25 lap All Pro Series Wingless Spec Sprint feature victory of the season Saturday night at Antioch Speedway. The win paid $600 to Hanestad aboard his S&S Automotive sponsored Eagle Chassis. Billy Fraser drove the Antioch Muffler sponsored Sprinter to a $300 second ahead of John Hendrickson.
There were 26 Wingless Spec Sprints in action with the four six lap qualifying heat race wins going to Bob Newberry, Fraser, Daryl Moore and Hanestad. Hanestad continued a clean sweep performance with a victory in the four lap Trophy Dash. Tom Henry went flag to flag to win the 12 lap B Main ahead of Joey Santos and Jimmy Perry III.
The Main Event was restarted when Dan Gonderman and Scott Merrell tangled in Turn 2 and Dave Ellis crashed in Turn 4. Merrell and Ellis were eliminated from action, and John Hedndrickson led the opening lap ahead of Hanestad and Fraser. Newberry stalled in Turn 1 for a lap one caution flag, and Hanestad raced into the lead on the restart lap. Fraser took second from Hendrickson on a lap three restart. Despite several caution flags, Hanestad and Fraser ran smooth races to finish first and second. 13th starter Henry had worked his way into the top five by lap three, and Gonderman was in the top five by lap ten. Gonderman was challenging Hendrickson for third before he suffered a mechanical problem and spun in Turn 4 for a lap 20 caution flag. Henry also pitted. Hanestad scored the impressive victory ahead of Fraser, Hendrickson, Santos and Perry III.
