W. RICHLAND, Washington -- Jason Jefferson (Yakima, WA) won his third major event in a row at Tri-City Raceway dating back to last September when he won the Raybestos Brakes Northwest Series 125. Later that month he won the Desert Star and now the Budweiser 100. Did I fail to mention he also won the 2002 Late Model Championship (his second) during this period?

Jason started at the back of the pack when he accepted the challenge of added money to the $2000 winner’s share of the purse if he could win the race. By lap 28 he caught leader Tom Sweatman (Neilton, WA) and made the pass never looking back. The 100-lap feature for the Super Late Models went green to checker. Scott Walker (Prosser, WA) closed to within four car lengths of leader Jefferson, but fell back as his car started to tighten up. Walker was able to hold off Sweatman to finish second. Following Sweatman was fourth place finisher Mike Longton (Yakima, WA) and fifth went to Steve Thompson (W. Richland, WA).

The number-one was lucky for Jason after he was the number one qualifier he drew the number-one when the top ten in qualifying drew for their starting positions and finally he finished number-one after 100-laps on the ½-mile tri-oval. The win netted him $2400 with the added challenge money put up by Winners Choice & Tri-City Raceway.

The Northwest Legends showed up with a TCR record car count (32). Billy Weber led the entire 25 laps in the feature with all the racing action behind him. Duane Swanson finished second and Richie Spooner third.

Doyle Brayton (Blackfoot, ID) celebrated his birthday by leading the entire 35-lap feature for the Northwest Outlaw Modifieds. Brayton, who got to the track just in time to qualify after being delayed by the weather. Greg Ochs (Colville, WA) ran out of laps as he was closing on the leader when the checkers fell. Ed Hudson (Cheney, WA) finished third, Jeff Brayton (Blackfoot, ID) fourth and Paul Liner (St Helens, OR) fifth.

The action moved to the all-new ¼-mile and the young Bandoleros drivers were the first to christen the new addition to TCR. 10-year-old Matt Lundstrom was the winner followed by 8-year-old Patrick Algren. Brandon Glave took the third spot from Zachary O’Brien.

The final event of the night was the debut of the new Bomber Enduro cars and they lived up to their billing by providing smashing-crashing action for 25-laps on the tight ¼-mile.

Tim DeWeese (Selah, WA) will go in the record book as the first ever winner. Pole sitter Larry Hodge (Athena, OR) held the lead most of the race but was unable to hold off DeWeese. Jacob Klingenberg (Walla Walla, WA) banged his way to third while Sid White (Othello, WA) bumped into the fourth spot and smashing his way to the fifth position was Lucas Davis (Pasco, WA).

Next up on Saturday April 12 will be the start of Lithia Dodge NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series for the Late Models. The NASCAR Street Stocks and Mini-Stocks will make their 2003 debut. In addition, for the first time ever the all-new Hornet Class will attempt to master the ¼-mile.

Back Gates at 11am, the front Gate at 4pm, Qualifying at 4pm and all the action at 6pm.
