MADERA, California -- Davey Hamilton’s SRL Wild West Late Model Shootout returns to Madera Speedway on Saturday April 12th, for their first of three 100 lap racing installments in 2003. Joining them this weekend will be the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series for their second event of the season as their race on Saturday, April 5th was canceled do to rain and hail pelting the track the night before.
Although this is their first race at Madera this year, the SRL Late Models have had two events already, one at the half mile at Altamont Raceway and the other at the quarter mile Stockton “99” Speedway. Both events flourished with respectable car counts so expect similar numbers to be present at the “Fastest Third Mile in the West” this weekend.
Previous winners at Madera in the SRL Late Models that will be ready to race include 2001 champion, Nathan Tucker and racing veteran and local favorite Ray Lawson, Jr. of Fresno. Also in attendance will be the 2002 champion, Jeff Anthony who has won already at Altamont, and Stockton’s winner Ron Strmiska, Jr.
With inclement weather postponing the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series last week, the only change in format for this weekend will be that there is only one 25 lap feature for the Grand American Modifieds. Although this is not a make-up date for this series, one is being determined as it is important to our NASCAR Feature Division drivers to have the number of required races to compete for the NASCAR Sunbelt Regional Championship, and the National Championship.
Joining the SRL Late Models and our NASCAR Grand American Modifieds will be the Sportsman Short-track Division, the Toyota Sedans, and Jr. Grand American Modifieds.
Grandstands open at 2:00 PM with racing starting at 6:00. For more information, visit our website at www.maderaspeedway.com![]()
