JEFFERSON EARNS 1K BONUS FOR FAST TIME IN APPLE CUP

YAKIMA, WA (April 12, 2003) – Jason Jefferson continued his dominance of his hometown Yakima Speedway with a 19.077 second fast lap to earn the pole for the 37th Annual Les Schwab Tire Centers Apple Cup. Jefferson collected a $1,000 bonus for his efforts and is line for $500 bonus courtesy of Tacoma-Seattle Trailer Repair if he can win the 100-lap late model feature from the pole position.

TSTR, Mike Olson Dodge and Yakima Speedway contributed to the $1,000 bonus Jefferson earned for his qualifying efforts.

Timing in with the second quickest lap in the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series presented by Dodge late model event was Mike Longton. Ken Kaltschmidt, Ron Turner, Tom Sweatman and Garrett Evans rounded out the top six and occupy the first three rows of the 30-car field.

Capturing fast time in the Boomers Roadside Grill Street Stock division was defending class champion Erick Hargraves with a lap of 23.818 seconds around the .500-mile facility. By virtue of a complete invert, he will start 14th in Sunday’s main event. Harold Seekins, Andy Beaman, Richard Cagle and Terry Cook rounded out the top-five qualifying positions.

The Yakima Speedway Hobby Stock division saw Rookie-of-the-Year contender Joel Olson grab fast time with a lap of 24.887. He will also start shotgun on the 16-car field as a result of a complete invert. Jeff Mullins, Neal Smith, Don Klang and Buck Noel Jr. rounded out the top-5 Hobby Stock qualifying session.
