Fresno, Calif. (April 10) – Davey Hamilton’s SRL Wild West Shootout heads to “The Fastest 1/3 Mile in the West” this coming Saturday April 12th, at Madera Speedway. Saturday’s race will be the third event of 2003, and the first of three scheduled events at Madera this season.
Currently Jeff Anthony of Livermore, California leads Ron Strmiska Jr. of Manteca by one point. (101-100). Anthony took the Sunoco Checkered flag at Altamont Raceway Park, March 22nd. Two weeks ago at Stockton99 Speedway, Strmiska brought home the victory.
Michael Carver of Diamond Springs, California currently sits third in the season standings, while Joey Zampa, Tim Stratmeyer, and Tracy Bolin are all tied for the fourth position.
Ray Lawson Jr. won two of the three races last year at Madera, while Joey Zampa picked up his first career Wild West Shootout victory at Madera last season.
Bolin is the current rookie of the year point’s leader, with Steven Williams of Merced, California just four points out of first.
Ron Strmiska Jr. has been the man to knock off the speed charts lately. Strmiska has set fast time at Altamont and Stockton this year.
Car haulers may enter the pit area at 11:30 AM Saturday, registration at noon, and practice at 2:00 PM. Grandstands will open at 2:00 PM.

Ron Zampa, a very well-known and respected car owner passed way Tuesday April 11th after a long illness. Ron was the car owner and crew chief for son Joey, who competes on the Wild West Shootout.
Funeral services will be held Friday, April 11th at 2 p.m. at Richard Pierce Funeral Service, 1660 Silverado Trail, Napa California. Visitation will be Thursday from 2 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be at Tulocay Cemetery in Napa.
