MONROE, Washington -- The NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series Super Stocks opened their 2003 season at Evergreen Speedway on Saturday with John Zaretzke holding off Shane Harding for the win in the 50 lap feature. Jim Foti won his first ever NASCAR Randy’s Ring & Pinion A-Main in the 35 lap main event. FEAR Super Figure 8 driver Shane Sawin made it two in a row with a last lap pass in the 30 lap main event and Kim Huffman came home the winner in the 25 lap FEAR Extreme Contact Feature.

Harding and Tom Moriarity lead the 14 car field for the green in the 50 lap feature with Zaretzke starting eighth in the field after setting fast time earlier in the evening. Harding paced the first eight laps before Dan Beecher brought the 1st of many yellow flags, as he hit the front stretch wall. Beecher was able to continue. Six laps later Joe Constance and Rob Angus got together in turn 2 and slid off the backstretch. Scott Sarto brought out the third caution on lab 25 with a spin in turn 3. At the halfway point the hard charging Zaretzke had moved to third behind Moriarity with Harding still leading, Matt Murphy was in fourth and John Bender in fifth.. In some of best racing action of the night, Zaretzke and Moriarity raced side by side for 4 laps before Zaretzke overtook Moriarity on lap 30 to take second place. Just 2 laps later, Constance and Joey Decker spun off in turn 4. On the restart at lap 35, Zaretzke made his move on Harding to take the lead on lap 36. Zaretzke was able to hold off the charge of both Harding and Moriarity on the lap 48 restart from the yellow caused by Matt Murphy spinning in turn 3. Zaretzke took the checkered flag followed closely by Harding in second and Moriarity in third.

In NASCAR Randy’s Ring & Pinion Bombers A-Main took the green with Mike Ebeling on the pole. Ebeling held the lead into a lap 2 yellow for several cars tangling on the back straight. On the restart, Jim Foti took the lead from Ebeling. Lap 13 saw Jay Poulsen bring out the yellow with a spin on the back straight. Lap 17 saw Jim Downey take second from Ebeling after several laps of furious racing action. Bill Eddy followed Downey through to take over third. Debris on the track brought out the third yellow of the race on lap 19. Foti took the win with Downey in second and Eddy bringing up third.

In the B-Main for NASCAR Randy’s Ring & Pinion Bombers, Nikki Bristol lead the group of eight cars to the line. She was immediately passed by Bill Mann for the lead of lap one. Mann went on win a transfer position to the A Main along with John Burtsche. That left Dirk Kruiswyk as the winner of the B Main. Ryan Hansen took second, with Darrel Lutosky taking third.

In the FEAR Super Figure 8 A-Main, Michael Hayes brought the field of sixteen cars to the green flag. By the first red flag, on lap 3, he had been passed by Jerry Funden who restarted as the leader. He held the lead until lap 8 when Malcolm Lindberg took the lead. Lindberg held the lead for 5 laps until John Carlson took it over. In an exciting last lap move, Shane Sawin passed Carlson to take the checkered flag. Carlson ended up a disappointing second and Lindberg took third.

Ben Raynes took the green flag from the pole in the FEAR Extreme Contact A-Main. He was quickly passed by Doug Wilkinson, who lead the first lap. Wilkinson held onto the lead through red flags on laps 6 and 8, brought out by multiple car spins. Perry Huffman, who started on the outside of the fourth row, passed Wilkinson on lap 9 and held the lead through the rest of the race. Geoffery Chandler took second and Raynes ended up in third.

In one of the fastest growing classes at Evergreen Speedway, the Hertz Hornets had over 50 cars run in 3 main features. The first main saw Billy Williams take the checkered followed by Darin Stordahl and Royce Johannes. The second main featured a win by Bruce Reinecke, 2nd was Vincent Viceu, and 3rd was the 167 car. The third Hertz Hornet main was won by Gus Uribe, with Rod Helmuth in second, and Steve Peters in 3rd.

Racing continues next Saturday night, April 19th, with NASCAR Super Stocks, NASCAR Randy’s Ring & Pinion Bombers, NASCAR Mini Stocks, FEAR Super Figure 8s, FEAR Extreme Contact Figure 8, a Gauntlet Race, PLUS Easter Egg night! Time trials start at 3:00PM, Heat Races at 5:00PM, and features at 7:00PM.
