CHRIS BINGHAM SWITCHES RIDES FOR FONTANANASCAR BUSCH RACING
Source: Jay Robinson Racing
Former NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series driver Carlos Contreras will take the reigns of the No. 49 Ford Taurus in California, with Bingham scheduled to return to the seat in two weeks at Richmond International Raceway. In his six NASCAR Busch Series starts, Bingham has had a car capable of finishing in the top twenty, but mechanical failures and a crash have left the team with disappointing finishes. In the team's first outing at North Carolina Motor Speedway, a plug wire plagued the team. Las Vegas Motor Speedway ended with Chris being bounced into an accident with Bobby Hamilton Jr. The track "To Tough To Tame" Darlington Raceway left Bingham fighting a broken right rear shock all day. In the Lonestar state of Texas, The 49 team was dealing with a tire vibration throughout the course of the O'Reilly 300. While the results were not what the team was looking for, Chris has been able to lock a career best 26th place finishing position from the events at Darlington and Texas. In six NASCAR Busch Series starts, Bingham has scored a career best finish of 26th twice, at both Darlington Raceway, and Texas Motor Speedway. The former Grand Am Rolex Series GTS Driver Champion had a rough end in the last NASCAR Busch Series event from Nashville Superspeedway. Bingham was confident heading into the race on Saturday, that he had one of the best cars thus far this season. However, he was never able to show his stuff after another competitor experienced a blown engine, and the leftover residue would send Bingham and two other drivers into the wall with heavy damage. Despite the disappointing results in Nashville, Chris heads to the track this weekend with confidence on his side. "I am really looking forward to returning to racing at California," he said. "I will be running the same car that Shane Hall ran for the team at Nashville, and both the car and the engine are strong." Chris, who currently sits 34th in the NASCAR Busch Series standings also mentioned "I won the Grand Am race there in back in 2002. "I not expecting to enter the race and win, but I am confident that the experience on the oval last year will be able to transfer over this year and provide the team with a good finish." The ninth race of the 2003 NASCAR Busch Series season heads again backs out west to the state of the California. The Auto Club 300 from California Speedway is set for Saturday April 26th with live coverage on FX and MRN beginning at 4:00pm EST.
