Concord, NC (April 19, 2003)--Rain soaked Concord Motorsport Park on Saturday morning and into the afternoon, knocking out qualifying for Saturday night's ASA Racing Series BFGoodrich Tires 250 at Concord Motorsport Park. As a result, the 34-car field will line up by points.
The decision was made in order to give the starting field practice time on the tricky .50-mile at Concord Motorsport Park, dubbed the "world's fastest half-mile tri-oval."
Kevin Cywinski, winner of last week's Texas 250 at Houston Motor Speedway, will start on the pole in his Great Clips/SK Tools Chevrolet, flanked by Butch Miller, winner of the season opener at USA International Speedway in Florida, in his Timber Wolf Chevy.
Robbie Pyle, who has started on the pole for both ASA races this season, will line up third, and $50,000 Rookie of the Year leader Travis Kittleson is fourth. Mike Garvey fills the fifth spot, while Rick Beebe, third at Houston, has the sixth spot. Rookie Ryan Hemphill, Florida veteran Mike Cope, Ohio's Glenn Allen Jr. and Georgia rookie Reed Sorenson round out the rest of the top 10 starters.
The last two drivers in the field, Texas regular John Silverthorne and Georgia's Dwayne Buggay, used provisional starting spots to make the race. Among those drivers who missed the show because of the morning-long mist and drizzle include NASCAR Truck Series driver Rich Bickle, longtime ASA veteran Scott Hansen, New York's Billy Whittaker, rookie Jeremy Miller, Oklahoma driver John Webb and Harrisburg, N.C. driver Ryan Zeck.
Practice for the starting field is scheduled to begin around 4 p.m. and
last until approximately 6 p.m. The exclusive one-hour Autograph Session
is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Pavilion behind the main grandstands.
Green flag for the BFGoodrich Tires 250 is slated for 9 p.m. The race
will be telecast live on SPEED Channel.![]()
