CARSON CITY, Nevada -- Mean ‘ol’ Mother Nature finally gave the Champion Motor Speedway a break on Saturday afternoon, and a strong field of racecars were on hand to take to the track.

Sunny skies, light winds, and warm temperatures greeted the attending media representatives that were also on hand. From Western Modifieds to Hustlin’ Hornets … race teams from every division were represented and good will, along with high hopes for a succsesful season were echoed throughout.

2003 will be the 40th anniversary of continues operation at the Champion Motor Speedway, and it looks like everyone wants to share in the celebration. Many new racers - and a few “blasts from the past” are planning to participate this season.

Up next on the CMS calendar will be repairs to the historic high-banked asphalt oval. Plan call for filling all the surface cracks and then diamond grinding the entire surface smooth. Finally the 1/3-mile track will be resealed and re-striped.

The project is scheduled to get underway on Monday April 21. If the weather cooperates, the track will once again be available for rent on Tuesday April 29. For track rental reservations, please call Dawn at (775) 267-0505.
