CORONA, California -- Bruce Bechtel, frequent NASCAR Busch Series competitor aand Corona electrical contractor, is returning to his backyard track, California Speedway, to compete in the 1-800-PIT-SHOP.COM 300 NASCAR Busch Series race this Saturday along with 46 other entries including six Winston Cup drivers hoping to make the show.
Bruce Bechtel and Bechtel Motorsports offered the hood of their #77 2002 Ford Taurus owned by Joe Reilly to help assist in finding the killer of Cajon Speedway Promoter, Steve Brucker. Brucker was shot when he answered the door at his El Cajon home on Monday, April 14th around 2:30 PM. San Diego-based CrimeStoppers appreciated Bechtel's offer and is also offering a reward of $10,000 to anyone with information that leads to the arrest of the suspects responsible. For more information about the case, log onto SDCRIMESTOPPERS.COM, CAJONSPEEDWAY.COM or call (888) 580-TIPS.
Bechtel started his racing career at Cajon Speedway, competing regularly at the paved 3/8-mile speedway and holds the Cajon Speedway NASCAR Southwest Tour track record set on June 3, 2000. "I am glad that our team can assist San Diego-based CrimeStoppers in the search for whoever is responsible for this terrible act to Steve Brucker as he did not deserve this. I'll do whatever is needed along with the other racers at Cajon Speedway to bring this case to the public for answers for the Brucker family," replied Bechtel.
Bruce Bechtel is not a new face to California Speedway. Bechtel has logged more than 1500 laps and more than 90 hours at California Speedway as a driving instructor for a driving school over the past several years. Bechtel raced here last year, but rain prevented the field from qualifying, therefore, the lineup was put into place by point standings. Bechtel started 28 and finished 26th. California Speedway will also host the NASCAR Winston West and Winston Cup series' this weekend. Only 36 drivers will qualify using their times and the remaining seven positions will be filled by past champion and provisional standings.
Bechtel Motorsports would like to thank the following sponsors for making this weekend's race possible: American Electric Supply, Ford of Upland, Thompson Engineering, A-to-Z Circuit Breakers, Harvest.org and Custeau Signs.
The 2-mile D-shaped oval SuperSpeedway with 14-degree banking is situated on the site of the former Kaiser Steel mill and is one of the premier auto racing venues in the country, hosting six major racing weekends each year.
Busch 2-lap qualifying airs on Speedvision Friday at 5:30 PM (PST) and the 1-800-PIT-SHOP.COM 300 150-lap race will be televised at 1:00 PM (PST) on FOX.![]()
