ANTIOCH, California -- A carbureted Sprint Car record 35 Wingless Spec Sprints pulled into the pits Saturday night at Antioch Speedway for the Del Quinn Memorial Race. Coming off the victory in an NCMA Modified Sprint race Friday night, Danny Olmsted crossed the line first in the Del Quinn Memorial, but his 2003 Stealth Chassis came up light at the scales in post race tech. This gave point leader Darrell Hanestad his fourth 25 lap feature win of the season, and it was the second time this year that he got a feature victory after the apparent winner came up light at the scales. Hanestad wheels an Eagle Chassis sponsored by S&S Automotive. Previous winner John Hendrickson finished second ahead of 16th starter Billy Fraser.

This race marked the first time the NCMA has been a part of an Antioch event since 1998, and eight NCMA regulars joined four from the new Sacramento based CSRA and the All Pro Series regulars to make the 35 car field. There were four eight lap qualifying heat races with wins going in flag to flag fashion to Bob Newberry, Keith Shipherd, Hanestad and Jim Perry Jr. Perry Jr. won the four lap Trophy Dash that saw Newberry roll on the last lap after hitting the wall coming out of Turn 4. Newberry's crew had the car ready for the Main Event.

The 14 lap C Main was led all the way by David Hays Jr. Ricky Eversult hit the Turn 2 wall on lap six to end his race, and Doug Henry was in second on the ensuing restart. George Terry blew a motor running third, and Hays scored the victory ahead of D. Henry, Sal Mannina, Joey Santos and John Fenton. Driving the SCS Enterprises sponsored sprinter, Norm Johns repelled a late challenge from Scott Holloway to win the 14 lap B Main as Fraser, Hays, Tom Henry and D. Henry rounded out the tranfer positions.

Olmstead and Scott Merrell shared the front row of the Main Event with Hanestad starting fourth and Fraser 16th. Merrell raced into the early lead ahead of Olmstead and Hanestad. A low move in Turn 4 of the third lap gained Olmstead the lead as Hanestad followed into second. David Goodwill took third from Merrell on lap four, and Perry Jr. stalled in Turn 1 with a flat for a lap eight caution flag. Olmstead continued to lead Hanestad and Goodwill on the restart as Merrell and Hendrickson rounded out the top five. Hendrickson took fourth on lap ten with Shipherd slipped by Merrell on the inside a lap later for fifth. Sam Fries stalled in Turn 2 for a lap 13 caution flag, and Jimmy Perry III pitted on the restart. Olmstead continued to lead Hanestad and Goodwill. Holloway stalled for a lap 14 caution flag, and Shiphered pitted from fifth during the caution period. Olmstead continued to lead Hanestad, Goodwill, Hendrickson and 17th starter T. Henry on the restart. The top five ran in that order through two more yellows, but Goodwill's steering broke in Turn 4 of the 21st lap, collecting T. Henry in the incident. Olmstead led Hanestad and Hendrickson on the restart, and that's the way the crossed the finish line. However, Olmstead came up light at the scales as Hanestad was awarded the victory ahead of Hendrickson, Fraser, Johns and Merrell. C Main transfers D. Henry and Hays finished sixth and seventh, respectively as Newberry, Shipherd and T. Henry rounded out the top ten.
