MADERA, California -- April Showers have graced the Madera Speedway for nearly a month now and hopefully with the beginning of May, racing action will be in full bloom this Saturday, May 3rd at the “Fastest Third Mile in the West”
Davey Hamilton’s SRL Wild West Late Model Shootout will be ready to go and make up their rained out first event at Madera Speedway on Saturday May 3rd. This will be the first of three 100 lap racing installments in 2003. Joining them this weekend will be the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series for their second event of the season as their races throughout April had everything from rain and hail to flash floods preventing them from racing.
Although this is their first race at Madera this year, the SRL Late Models have had two events already, one at the half mile at Altamont Raceway and the other at the quarter mile Stockton “99” Speedway. Both events flourished with respectable car counts so expect similar numbers to be present at Madera this weekend.
Previous winners at Madera in the SRL Late Models that will be ready to race include the 2001 champion, Nathan Tucker and one of Madera Speedway’s racing legends: Ray Lawson, Jr. of Fresno. Also in attendance will be the 2002 champion, Jeff Anthony who has won already at Altamont, and Stockton’s winner Ron Strmiska, Jr.
With inclement weather postponing the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series, there will be two changes in format for this weekend: only one 25 lap feature for the Grand American Modifieds and twin features for our Shortrack series, the Sportsman. Although this is not a make-up date for this series, one is being determined as it is important to our NASCAR Dodge Weekly drivers to have the number of required races to compete for the NASCAR Sunbelt Regional Championship, and the National Championship.
Joining the SRL Late Models and our NASCAR Grand American Modifieds and Sportsman will be the Toyota Sedans, Jr. Grand American Modifieds and Pure Stocks.
Grandstands open at 2:00 PM on Saturday and Racing starts at 6:00 PM. For
