BAKERSFIELD, CA -- The U.S.A.C. (United States Auto Club) Western Sprint Car Series will compete for the first time ever at Mesa Marin Raceway this Saturday night. It will be the first U.S.A.C. sanctioned event at the Bakersfield half-mile, since Kenny Irwin beat Tony Stewart and Mike Bliss to win a 100-lap Silver Crown Series event in October 1994. The U.S.A.C. Sprint Car Series point leader after three events is two-time Indy Racing League runner-up Davey Hamilton. Hamilton will be joined at the front of the field by open wheel ace Jimmy Sills, Tony Hunt, Mike Boat, Amy Barnes, and the more than 24 cars that are expected. "With no-wings, the seventeen inch right rear tires, and the tremendous amount of horse power these cars have, this should be one of the most adrenaline pumping events of the year," stated Mesa Marin Raceway senior vice-president Larry Collins. "I don’t know who is more pumped up about this Saturday’s race, the fans, the drivers, or me." Collins added. The U.S.A.C. Sprint Cars will share Saturday’s racing schedule with the NASCAR Modified Stocks, NASCAR Street Stocks, the 911 Race for Youth Series and 1930’s and ‘40’s Vintage Sprint Cars. Qualifying starts at 4:00pm with the Street Stocks, heat races are at 6:00pm, with the racing program beginning at 7:00pm.
