American Fork, Utah's Jared Elwell came home the victor in a hard fought main event on a cold and rainy Saturday night, May 10th. The Intermountain Mini Sprints 2nd event of the year at Desert Thunder Raceway in Price, Utah saw a smaller than normal attendance and car count due to the threat of rain. The start of the evening's events were slightly delayed for a light shower after hot laps.
Jared's father, Jack Elwell stormed to the lead on the first lap and paced the field for the first 6 laps. On lap 7, Jared was able to use a lapped car to take the lead. For the remainder of the race the Elwell's and 3rd place finisher Tim Savage ran nose to tail providing an exciting race for the fans. Jason Fleming and Bob Brewer whodrove Ed Thayer's #8 rounded out the Top 5.
Tim Savage led every lap of the heat race. Jack Elwell took the lead coming off of turn 2 and led every lap of the Trophy Dash for his first trophy dash win of the year.
Heavy rains and light snow throughout the week made for an excellent track during hot laps and the heat race. The track dried out before the main but was still in excellent shape.
Next week should see a larger car count as Bob Brewer should have the #5 US Security/Morningstar Ballons Beast/Suzuki completed, Brady and Jamie Swertfeger will have the #2 and #11 TCR/Honda's out and Terry Groo should have his new Honda in the #40 Big Wilderness Taxidermy car. Mike Kesler also hopes to have the engine repaired in the #7 Stealth/Kawasaki by next week.
