SPIRITED BATTLE FOR NASCAR DODGE WEEKLY SERIES CROWN AT YAKIMA SPEEDWAYYAKIMA SPEEDWAY
Source: Yakima Speedway
Walker jumped into a narrow lead over Ken Olson for the points lead at the .500-mile facility. Olson, who is pulling double duty this weekend by running the Better-All Super Stock division and the late model machine, will be shooting for his first late model win of the season. The Naches, Wash. native has one win in the Super Stock class and is tied for that division’s points lead with Greg Kuhlman.
With several drivers tied for positions in the late model points standings, Saturday night could provide breakout performances from Travis Bennett, Mike Longton and Ron Bemis. Ron Dexter debuted a new race car at the May 3 event and started on the front row. Dexter accomplished the feat despite very little practice or sleep leading up to the race.
This weekend it is younger brother Bob’s turn to bring out a new race car. The younger Dexter has been driving Ken Olson’s Super Stock in the late model events while building a new Ford late model. Once completed, this new car could challenge for late model victory right off the trailer.
With recently announced rule changes to the Super Stock division, an increase in car count is expected for their third race of the season. A new treaded Goodyear Eagle will be used for the first time this season underneath the Super Stock machines. This ten-inch racing tire should provide an increase in qualifying lap times and overall performance for the growing division.
Boomers Roadside Bar & Grill Street Stock drivers will round out the three division schedule this Saturday night. Jason Huffines will look for his second win of the year after being handed the last main event due to a competitor’s disqualification. Ashley Beaman, earned a second place run in the last event for the division and will also be looking for her first win of 2003.
Others to watch for in the 35-lap Street Stock main event include Andy Beaman, Tony Huffines, Chris VanAmberg and defending series champion Erick Hargraves.
