EL CAJON, California -- There was no doubt who had the fastest late model sportsman stock car at Cajon Speedway Saturday night. The answer to that question was David Beat. Not only did Beat have the fastest qualifying time. But the veteran came from mid-pack to win the 40-lap NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series main event on the 3/8-mile paved oval.

Beat outran Rick Chavez by eight lengths in the contest. Claude Bell ran third ahead of Mark Norris and John Manke.

Point leader Hector Leon paced the pony stock field for the third time in four outings. John Luecht outran defending champion Scott Brown in the season opener for Grand American modifieds. In the first event of the year for the factory stocks, defending champion Matt Arnold picked up where he left off last year by winning their 20-lapper.

Beat started tenth and used the low groove to move steadily forward. Mark Norris got the early advantage and was out front until lap 16. Beat moved into the top five on lap 3 and then ducked under Scott Moses for fourth on lap 7. A round later he dipped under Mike Mendenhall for third. A lap 10 caution regrouped the field. On the restart Beat went to work on the leading pair. Sticking down low, he got past Bell into second on lap 15 and eased past Norris in turn two on lap 16.
