Las Vegas Motor Speedway’s new 3/8-mile paved oval opened Saturday night with a capacity crowd and more than 150 race cars.

The NASCAR Late Models competed in two 20-lap main events as a part of Speedway Café & Casino Night. Scott Gafforini drove his Fletcher Jones-sponsored machine to victory lane in the first main event. Ray Hopper Jr. took the win in the second main event after the leaders crashed with less than two laps to go.

Steve Anderson attempted to steal the lead from Chuck Trickle with two laps remaining. They made contact and collected Gafforini and Joe Kirsch. Trickle and Kirsch were out of the race, but Anderson and Gafforini were able to continue. Gafforini, the new leader, and Anderson were black flagged for making contact during the caution. With the top four cars out of contention, Hooper was in the lead. He took the green, white and checkered to claim the victory.

Wayne Morris Jr. went three wide at the checkered flag to take the win in the Grand American Modifieds feature. Jerry Walton and Fabian Bray followed.

Gary Warren won the Hitchin’ Post/Exiss Trailers Legends Car feature while Gary Fuller took the Charger victory. Mark Schottmuller was the winner in the Mini Stock division, and Justin Johnson won the Bandolero main event.
